Fanny Minshall born circa 1856 in Tipton Staffordshire (according to census's)
I have her marriage certificate 15 July 1879 Married Henry Haines (his birth certificate spells this Haynes) West Bromwich. Gives her father as John Minshall. Her age as 23.
In the 1891 census, Fanny's mother listed as living with her, her mother = Mary Smith born 1828 in Llanbadarn odwyn, Radnorshire Wales.
1861 census shows Fanny as Fanny Smith. 1871 Census shows her as Fanny Minshall living with Mary & Joseph Smith, denoted as her parents.
Trying to find John Minshall's date/place of birth . Any help/ideas would be appreciated.
Thank-you

I think this is more to do with what I can't find than can.
I can't find a marriage for Mary Minshall = Joseph Smith.
there is a marriage for John Minshall/june 1851/dudley/18/435 with possible spouses;Mary Ann Hunt & Mary Stevens.
There is a birth for Frances Minshall/dec.1857/newport S/6a/687
& a death for John Minshall/dec.1860/stone/6b/18
These places are a bit off the pace from one another it's hard to see them being the same family.
There's a John Minshall in Stoke-on-Trent in 1841 about the right age but looks difficult to link with any of the others events.
The other possibility is that she was illegitimate & made up the name, her mothers maiden name being Minshall.

Was John Minshall's occupation recorded on the marriage cert? Who were the witnesses?

Hello Calabash,
Welcome to rootschat :)
There is a tree which says that Mary is Mary Burton. Do you have her name from William's certificate if you don't have a registration for Fanny?
If I have the right family-who is Edward Smith b 1846? I can't see him in 1851 with parents Joseph and Mary but there is a Mary Burton in 1851 in Llanbadarn Fawr :-\
Have you found the family in 1851?
regards

I'm not sure I have the right people :-\
You say:
In the 1891 census, Fanny's mother listed as living with her, her mother = Mary Smith born 1828 in Llanbadarn odwyn, Radnorshire Wales.
but I can only see them together in 1901 when Mary is born Tipton.

First, thanks to all of you for your responses.
To answer someof the questions:
The witnesses on Fanny's marriage certificate are Edward Stevens & it looks like Emma Arnold.
In 1871 Fanny's mum, Mary(Smith>>) is listed as being born in Wales,Fanny's surname =Minshall.
In 1861 Fanny recoded as Fanny Smith, her Mother,Mary, birth 1828, llanbadarn, Radnorshire.
The Steven's connection - piced up a Mary Stevens married John Minshall in 1851 in Dudley,Staffs.
In 1858 Mary Monshallmarried Joseph Smith .
Earliest i pick up the family is 1861.
Attaching the marriage certificate.
Thank-you again, my research at present is limited to the net as am currently working in S.Africa.

Not sure it necessarily helps, but John Minshall mar Mary Stevens in St Martins, Tipton
-
Spidermonkey I think you have found them!!! My Mum, (Fanny was her grandmother) went to Sunday school at St Martins church.
Does the record that you are viewing give John Minshall's date/place of birth?
Are these church records?
Thank-you

Unfortunately they don't tell you any more than that, but it does give a reference number should you wish to get the cert via the registry office rather than GRO http://www.westmidlandsbmd.org.uk/

So I think I may have the right family after all and perhaps Edward Smith is Edward Stephens/Edward Stevens but where is he in 1851?
Family Search baptism
Edward: 5th August 1846 Lllananno, Radnorshire - mother Mary Stephens
1891 RG12; Piece: 2285; Folio 78; Page 30
Joseph and Mary with grandson Edward Stevens b 1874
1881 RG11; Piece: 2865; Folio: 148; Page: 40
The two Edward Stephensand a young Mary
A possible baptism on FS for Mary Stephens, Ruabon 1831 :-\ but possibly not- better wait for marriage certificate
Mry Burton must have been included in that tree because of her birth place ::)
I was put off by the census references you gave but all is well :)
good luck

Thank-you Heywood & Spidermonkey, have ordered John Minshall & Mary Stevens marriage certificate.
I have another conundrum with an Irish link for my other Great gandmother but will get my facts right census wise first, sorry Heywood!!
-
Oh don't worry abgout that - it just put me off a bit. Then I remembered the grandson Edward Stevens and hopefully it will all fall into place.
There is an Edward in Wales in 1851 with Stephens (or Stevens) grandparents and these are different to the FS baptism of a Mary so it's best to get her dad first from the cert. and then proceed.
Good luck
heywood :)
