maryann king was born 1821 at crockenhill anyone know if it was a stopping place
-
I've looked through the registers of Crockenhill and, if my memory serves me correctly, it was popular for fruit picking etc..
Casalguidi :)
-
Crockenhill is a short walk from my house. It is very old village that was the site of pottery manufacture although few very old houses stll exist. Later it was a significant site for market gardening, especially strawberries & jam making but now most of the residents are employed elsewhere.

Hi Cushybokt
What time of year was Mary Ann born? Her family could have been in the area for the hop-picking, usually around September/October.
Best wishes
Sharon
-
Hi may be.
Mary Ann King was born 1921. her father was John King
but we know nothing about that side.
any help is appreciated.
-
Can you tell us when/where/whom she married? Have you found her on all the available census? All these might give clues as to her origins.
Casalguidi :)
-
she married william packman near dartford kent
-
I can see 3 William PACKMANs in that area, two with a wife called Mary ............ could you please clarify which couple it is you are researching ................. can you name the children or tell us when and where they appear on a census to make sure we are on the right track. The problem is that the Mary who says she was born Crockenhill says she was born c1828 whilst the one born c1821 says she was born Ash near Ridley.
Casalguidi :)
-
Was it 1821 or 1921? Both appear in the posts by Cushtybokt.

I'm not quite sure what you mean by copy? Do you mean print it out or look at the original census images etc.?
Casalguidi :)

i was wondering if mariann king at eynsford 12 years old was registered as a daughter on that 1841 cencus
-
Unfortunately the 1841 census for England and Wales doesn't give relationships nor where born (only whether born in the county of residence or not) see http://homepage.ntlworld.com/hitch/gendocs/census.html - I have extracted all the informaton for the family. However, looking at how the family are listed, I would think she is quite possibly a daughter .............. if she were a visitor or something she probably be more likely to be listed after the children (Caleb and Henry). If nobody does it in the meantime, I'll try and have a look later to see if we can find anything on the BESTs and/or KINGs.

Going bCk further Thomas packman of 1775 married Sarah white, but some trees have him marrying twice. His first wife being only 13 and they had 3 or 4 children I think her name is hart. I don't know how this has been discovered as I can't find the marriage.
Also there are 2 different but almost identical families for john west from the area as tney have sons callef Caleb.
Can you tell me something about Thomas s first wife?
