Title: Liverpool Ancestors
Post by: novac on Thursday 13 January 11 17:03 GMT (UK)
My GGrandfather was Richard Dentith Maynard b. Liverpool in 1839.He was a corkcutter and still employed in 1911 at the age of 72! He married Jane Cannell (b.1840 in the Isle of Man). My paternal  Grandfather was Thomas Andrew Maynard b 1881 in Liverpool. He married Margaret George Brodie in 1904 in St Peters Church Street. I cannot find any trace of Thomas after 1911. I wonder if there is anyone out there related to the Liverpool Maynards?

Hi,

Yes Thomas was a docker according to the 1911 census.

False alarm - the only Thomas Maynard in the 1925 Directory is a Tailor’s Cutter, living in 3 Pulford Street. That was a skilled job so is unlikely to be the same man.

No soldier of that name and age was killed in WW1. You should check the surviving service records on Ancestry as the Kings Liverpool Regiment created two battalions of dockers, so he may be listed. Also if you buy the certificate for Dorothy you may get some information. You could for example check the electoral roll for 1918 and 1919 at the address given.

Hiya Novac....Richard Dentith Maynard married Jane Cannell in June qtr 1859 ...on freebmd
so Richard would be 42 and Jane 41 when Thomas was born .....
do you have Richard Dentith and Jane in the 1881 census ??
sometimes when unmarried mothers had babies the grandparents said they were their child...it happened in my family...checking 1881 census...
OK Novac...your info is a little out....Thomas D Maynard was born 1879 and looks like he was a twin

15 HO 5 Court Mason Street
West Derby
Liverpool

Richard D Meynard  head male aged 42 b Liverpool    Cork Cutter
Jane D Meynard wife aged 40 b Isle of Man      Servant
Joseph D Meynard son aged 14 b Liverpool   Baker
Emma D aged 9 scholar
Richard D aged 5 scholar
Annie D aged 2
Thomas D aged 2  .......twins ????
RG 11
3706/17
page 28
I will look on lancsbmd for Annie D and Thomas D b 1877/79 ...the MEYNARD spelling was probably a mistranscription
allan :)
ADDED.........Ann Dentith born june qtr 1878 ...and now we have a problem...NO Thomas or D born in Liverpool mar 1878 to dec 1879...and none under Meynard either....so...???

The 1891 census shows Annie to be 12 and Thomas to be 10. I would suggest that the enumerator should have perhaps written 2 months for Thomas in 1881.

This could be the birth registration
Thomas Maynard West Derby March Q 1881 volume 8b page 603.

To Novac. Not sure how to do this. Am a novice to this site. My Grandmother was a sister to Richard Dentith Maynard, b 1907, another sister Jane b 1909, brother Ernest b 1910, Robert Andrew 1912-1986 and Dorothy b 1916. My Gran was the eldest I think. Named Margaret after her mother and Euphemia after her Grandmother. I thought there were more children but not been able to source them. But Margaret George Brodie and Thomas Andrew (commonly called Andrew I believe) were her parents.  Can you ask site for my details? Ann
