Title: Burial at Narborough
Post by: whizzy on Thursday 13 January 11 05:32 GMT (UK)
I'm trying to find a burial record for a George Potterton who died in Narborough RD (which I assume is near to or in Narborough village) on 23rd December 1899 aged 75 years.

Now his daughter Jane Toseland lived in Narborough village which explains why he was there, but his wife was buried in the village where he originates from. So he could either have been buried in Narborough or returned to Ashley (Northants) to be reunited with his wife.

So I can either rule out Narborough please could someone take a look for me. As I know Jane and her husband Jacob were buried in Narborough churchyard so the family did have a plot there .... is that where George is ?  ???

Thanks in advance
Whizzy

Hi whizzy,

The only one I can come up with is:-

George Potterton.
Birth abt 1821.
Death Oct 1899, Blaby, Leicestershire.
Aged 78.
Reference 7a   27.

This is within spitting distance of Narborough if you look at a Atlas.

regards,

Spatts.

Thanks Spatts,

I already have the death certificate for George, I am just trying to find out where he was buried. Whether it was where he died or where he buried his wife Elizabeth.

But I have my doubts that heaving a coffin back from Narborough to Ashley village (the far side of market Harborough) near christmas in 1899 would be practical. But stranger things have happened.  ::)

Thanks Whizzy

Just to add that Blaby was (probably still is) the registration district for Narborough. So he probably wasn't buried in Blaby if he lived in Narborough. But you probably knew that already!

cheers
