I am currently researching my ancestors and have come to a brick wall in the 1911 census records for the Woodhouse family, if anyone has any knowledge if they may have moved from bedfordshire to possibly Scotland or Wales, or anywhere else, would love to hear from you. Or if you are a descendant of the family and have any information, would love to hear from you as well.
Going by the childrens birth dates, there were some prior to 1911 and some after born in the Luton area, but they are definitely not on any 1911 census records in England.
Frederick Charles Woodhouse 1883 Hackford, Norfolk KIA 1917 Egypt.
Margaret (Maggie) Woodhouse (nee Pieraccini) 1883 Luton, Bedfordshire - 1952 Rugby, Warwickshire.
Married 1904 Luton, Bedfordshire.
I believe Frederick was a Horse Trainer.
Children
Frederick Charles JNR 1906 Bedfordshire
Nelson Dennis 1907 Bedfordshire
Maggie or Margaret ? no information.
Arthur P 1912 Luton
Robert S N 1914 Luton
Constance Elizabeth 1915 - 1976 Rugby, Warwickshire.
Reginald C C 1919 - 1975 Rugby. (Not sure this would be Fredericks son, as he was KIA 14 months prior to his birth)

The Commonwealth War Graves site's record for Frederick Charles Woodhouse died 5/11/1917 says he was husband of Maggie Woodouse, of 30, Queen St., Rugby.

Had a look at 1911 Irish census for you (it's online and free) but they aren't living in Ireland-
www.census.nationalarchives.ie/search
We can't do 1911 English census lookups but have you looked at the search hints topic? (they may be transcribed incorrectly)

The occupier of 30 Queen St Rugby in 1911 was an Emma Leeson, a widow aged 72 from Atherstone. I wonder if she was related in some way, or if Maggie took over the house when Emma died ?

Thank you everyone for the extra information.
I have looked over the 1911 census as best I could, every which way and spellings, through just first initial, through birth year, through Luton, Rugby, Norfolk,... but nothing. They have disappeared. My only thought was they where staying with someone at the time and were never filled in on the census or they had possbily gone to Scotland or Wales.
Going by records I assume they moved to Rugby in 1914/1915 So they might possibly of taken over the property then. Not sure. They are lost to me between 1907 and 1912.
I also can't find information regarding the birth of their daughter Maggie/Margaret which is mainly why I was hoping to find some information on the census. I do know she exists as I have a photo of her, that was kept with my Great Grandmothers personal items.
All my current findings can be found on ancestry.com under 66ness, there is also a lot of pictures on there I have uploaded, some of which we have no clue as to whom they are, but do know they are from the Bedfordshire area, mainly Luton, Eaton Bray, Dunstable.

Have you thought that they may have gone abroad?
With mum's maiden name sounding very Italian ;) I looked there first.
There is a Mr and Mrs Woodhouse and 2 boys aged bewteen 1 and 12 travelling out on 19 Feb 1909 to Naples from London on the Omrah.
Maybe Maggie was born out there?

Hello Carol - that sounds like a very feasible explanation; is there any similar records for their return to the UK prior to birth of Arthur in 1912
Regards John
-
Hi John
No sadly not :(
But then I wonder if the return ones show those that come back from Italy?
I have only found them in the past from farther afield.

Thank you Carol, I had tried looking for if they had immigrated, but didn't find anything, but maybe there is a difference between just travelling and immigrating. Does sound like it might be them as yes Maggie's family were Italian. Her grandfather came from Tuscany Italy.
I had been going through records on ancestry.com, but is there someone where better that I should join and gain informtion from like you have given me?
Vanessa.

Ships lists FROM the UK are available on Find My Past.
You can search the indexes free of charge.
I wonder if there would be any records of them arriving in Italy- with more detailed info?
Perhaps you should start a new thread on the Europe board and link it to this one- maybe someone lives in Italy and would know the answer :)

Thank you Carol, I will get something together soon and post a new tread through there.
I didn't know much about the Find My Past site, but I am thinking that it might have a lot more information than ancestry.com. has been able to provide me.

Hi,
I have just started to look into my family tree. A fascination with my grandmother's maiden name "pieraccini" stated it off. she was Constance Maud...
Asking my Mother, who is 90, about the Woodhouse connection she remembers that Elsie Woods' maiden name was woodhouse.
Have a look at the 1911 census for James Pieraccini and there you will find Elsie Woodhouse.
I am aware that other members of my family are looking into the family tree, a distant cousin into Luton who has posted pictures on to his site of CMP and another in Australia; Robyn Battrick.
There is also a guy I do not know at www.whatfunnyhat.com who also notes the Pieracinnis'.
Have fun....Paul

Thanks Paul for your message.
Constance Maud was the sister to my great grandfather Peter Pieraccini. Most of the photo's and information online has come from my tracing the family and have sent to others that were tracing the family tree. I still have further photos to upload and also try and work out who others are in a lot of photo's/negatives. You can find my tree under ancestry.com rawlings/pieraccini for any information that might help you. I have a fair bit of information too on Elsie Wood (nee Woodhouse) too. It is just uncovering other information that I sometimes hit a wall. My assumption is that Elsie when to live with the Pieraccini's due to her bother becoming ill, whom died a few years later, but I don't think we will ever truely know if my assumption is correct.
There is still a son alive today of Edith Pieraccini, Constance Maud's sister. He is still in the Luton area. Seems the Pieraccini line has had some long living genes. My own grandmother (Peter's daughter) passed away aged 91.
I am taking a small break from researching at the moment, can become very time consuming, but will be back on track sometime next month.
Enjoy the wonders of finding out about the family, I know I have been.
Vanessa.

Hi
New to this site but not to the forums. I note that on your list of relatives you have Bensons in Australia. I'm wondering if we are related as we have a Jane Woodhouse married a Thomas Benson back in the 1600's?
-
Hi Barkrelsatthepoint,
I'm unsure of whether there is a connection or not. I have Benson's on one family tree (my mother's side) and Woodhouse through marriage on another tree (my father's side) I don't have any marriages between Benson's to Woodhouse, however I have not gone back that far.
I have a tree on ancestry.com if you wish to see. Under 66ness.
-
Hi Ness66,
I would not be sure either, however our Woodhouse connections come from Jane nee Woodhouse who married we think a William Benson - they had two sons William and Thomas. Her brother was Hyman Woodhouse and her sister or William's was Emit Cliffe. When 'William' the elder died Jane married John Cowltas. This as far as I've gone with this and it comes from a will held by the Whitby Museum and Phil Society.
That said my interest also lies with the myth handed down through the Benson generations that we're related to the Archbishop of Canterbury and the Arch married Mary Woodhouse his niece so the plot thickens.
We're in Australia and I noted that you have connections with Bensons in OZ. We're from Dr Barker Benson landed here 1841 and our story is on the Benson forum using same name as here. It's quite a read and found four relatives as a result.
If any of this rings a bell let me know otherwise it was good to have a chat which is what it is all about. Keep up the good work.
Cheers barkrels.

Thanks for your reply and the information. But I am pretty sure I can't find a connection to the Benson's in my tree, not that I have gone back very far. If I do ever come across a connection though, I will let you know.
I wish you luck on your research.

Vanessa (Ness66)
I can answer many of your questions about the Woodhouse family you are trying to trace. Can you reply to me so I can see you are still active on this site and we can start a discussion. I am also in contact with my cousin who is the daughter of Nelson Woodhouse.
