Does anyone has information from a family of Woods from Cootehill. Maggie Woods married a Patrick McGetrick in 1894 Patrick was a draper and from Armagh and Maggie A. Woods moved to Armagh and they had a shop in English street in Armagh and later to Belfast.
Patrick and Maggie were married in Cootehill in Drumgoon parish church where Joesph Lennon and Theodora Woods were witnesses. Can anyone offer some help please

The marriage certificate should list the bride's residence as well as her father's name and occupation. Both the 1901 and 1911 census are online (free) and you can search for Woods (surname) under Cootehill (D.E.D.) to see if you recognise any of the people listed there-

Thanks both the bride and the groom are over 21 and the parents names and occupations do not appear on the marriage record. The only address is Drumgoon.
The parish church is still there I believe.
thanks again

is the marriage record you have a parish transcript or a civil cert ?
Civil certs usually have more detail, including residences of the bride & groom, fathers, occupations etc
see : Details included on a Marriage Cert (http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php/topic,433042.0.html)

Looking at childrens places birth it looks to me as though after they married, the family went first to Co. Antrim (which includes much of Belfast) for 2 years before moving to Armagh around 1896.

By 1911 they are in Belfast, probably for at least 4 years. Possibly there was a side-trip to Leitrim too, as Anthony was born there c 1903.

Griffiths Valuation has several Woods listed in Drumgoon parish. 2 mentions of a James Woods in Drumaveil North, and another in Church St, Magheranure townland. Also an Ellen Woods in Magheranure.

Thanks Elwyn
I got the Deramore Ave connection in 1911 and the English street connection in 1901. I suppose the real problem is not having the parents names for Maggie a. There is a Joesph Lennon in the 1911 census in Cootehill in the parish of Drumgoon who may be the witness in the marriage. Since Patrick McGetrick came from Sligo it is likely that Joesph Lennon is a relative of Maggie Woods and in 1911 he is 42 ,a contemporary of Maggie's and maybe a cousin.
I'll check out the Griffith evaluation
Thanks

Des,
I would recommend you also check out Shane's suggestion. It's pretty unusual to have a marriage cert which doesn't give father's names and fuller addresses for either party. I think you've probably got a copy of the cert the priest gave them, whereas the full civil register entry should give you more family information. You can get a photocopy for €4 from GRO Roscommon, so it's worth checking out. (Irish records can be thin on the ground, as you've probably discovered, and so you need to pursue every slender lead).

Agree with Shane and Elwyn about getting a copy of the civil certificate.
In case you haven't been to the church here's a photo...

As far as I know the Woods name has gone from Cootehill. I have an old invoice
it's from W.H.Woods Ltd., Cootehill. Phone 15. Egg and Poultry Exporters, dated 4/5/1955. Church of Ireland records queries to Rep Church Body Library, Braemor Park, Churchtown, Dublin 6. Tel. 014923979 or library[at]ireland.anglican.org
I think there may be a small charge for copies of info etc. Les

I have the following children listed in school records in Cootehill:
Cootehill Boys and Infants [The Darley School]
1910
WOODS, Wm. Hamilton; age 5; Church of Ireland; Residence, Cootehill; father a Shopkeeper
WOODS, Alfred John; age 3; Church of Ireland; Residence, Cootehill; father a shopkeeper
Cootehill #2; Infants and Girls School
1872
WOODS, Annie; Church of Ireland; age 3; Residence, Cootehill; Mother a Widow

Another source:
Ulster Covenant of 1912 has one listing for WOODS in Cootehill:
WOODS, Wm. A. of Cootehill
-
Regarding the listing of Wm. A WOODS, in the Ulster Covenant. I looked at the signature again and it could just as easily be Wm. H. WOODS. That would fit in with the other listings mentioned.

I have a little information on a family of McGetricks ans Woods. Patrick W. McGetrick was born in 1868 in Sligo and Maggie A Woods was born in Cootehill in 1870. Patrick and Maggie were married in 1895 in Drumgoon Church in Cootehill.
Patrick and Maggie by 1901 had five children and were living in Armagh in the commericial area of Upper English Street trading as Drapers. By 1911 the family had moved to Belfast.
I am looking for any connection with the Cavan link and Margaret Aloysius Woods and Patrick William McGetrick. Any help wopuld be greatly appreciated.

Did you ever get the copy of the marriage certificate to see if either father is listed? What are the exact residences of bride and groom at the time of their marriage?

Yes, there are no addresses or reference to either fathers' occupations. The couple were over 21. The marriage took place in Drumgoon parish on 9 Octobber 1894 with witnesses Joesph Lennon and Theodora Wood (maybe a mistake but no "s").

That was the civil record of the marriage? Sometimes fathers are not listed on a marriage record (if bride/groom illegitimate, father deceased, etc.) but the certificate has to list a residence for bride and groom which makes me wonder if you have the record from the church rather than the actual marriage certificate. (this was discussed earlier in this topic)

You are absolutely right I got the church cert and more details now emerge.
Married 9 October 1894
Bride Maggie A Woods
Residence Cootehill
Groom Patrick W.Mcgetrick
Residence Ballymoney
Brides Father James Woods (died)
Profession Flax Merchant
Grooms Father Patrick McGetrick
Profession Farmer
Witnesses Katie Woods Joseph Lennon
It looks like Patrick W. although born in Sligo was living in Ballymoney presumeably in Co Antrim. His father Patrick may be in the Griffith Valuation as he is a farmer. Thanks for your help all

There are at least 11 townlands in Ireland called Ballymoney so don't be too quick in picking the town of Ballymoney in County Antrim.
Would this be any connection? see www.proni.gov.uk

That looks very like it. Thanks Aghadowey
The family are buried in Milltown cemetery and I have been unable to contact anyone there. Did I read some where that you had some records of burials in Milltown?
The name changed from one T to two TT's after 1911 but there is a headstone and family plot. Can you check from the records who else is burried there and some dates? Sorry to impose

There are some Belfast cemetery records online (City, Dundonald & Roselawn). I don't have any Milltown records but believe another member does.
