Hi everyone,
Can anyone tell me who this particular Christiana was. She married John Stephenson. She says consistently in census that she was born in Whitby, would be anywhere between 1862 and 1868, age varies from different census.
She married in 1880 in Thirsk.
Thanks Val ??? ??? ???

Does the marriage cert give her fathers name and her age at that time
If she married in 1880 - it's unlikely she was born as late as 1868
She married John Stephenson
Freebmd shows him as Stevenson

Hi Interesting that the marriage took place in Thirsk in 1880, because there is a Christiana Swales working as a Servant there in 1871 unfortunatley aged 17, cannot locate her on 1861 though at present?

Hi,
Don't think it was unusual to have the name Stephenson spelt with a "v"back then. I don't have the marriage certificate, however in 1881 she is with John Stephenson, wife, bn Whitby, no children as yet. All the following census up to 1911 have her as bn Whitby.
Can't find her in census before 1881. Found her through researching John Stephenson.

Hi
Thank you for your reply, my uncle married a Coral lina Swales (lives in Darlington) and another one of my Uncle's married a Margaret Stepehnson, ( lives in Stokesley). My grandfathers sister also married into the Swales Family, this is on the Adams side of my family, another one of my grandfathers sisters married into the Harker family, the Swales and Harkers are my fathers cousins.
I have looked at the 1901 census and have traced that my Great Grandparents (Hannibal and Mabel Adams were living in Easingwold, Yorkshire at the time.
Thanks
Hannah
