Hi All,
I would like to find baptisms for Martha UNDERWOOD and her siblings. Martha is living in St Mary, Nottingham in 1841 and stated as being aged 33 and born in the county. She married William OLDFIELD at Gedling in 1828 and their daughter Harriet was also baptised there, so I am wondering if this was Martha's home parish.
I can find William in 1851 (stated as being married) but no sign of Martha. I know where two of their daughters were in 1851, but I am struggling to find Maria born 1844 who I think likely to be hiding with her mother. ;D
I am particularly interested in finding the names of Martha's male siblings (if any).
Any help very appreciated.
Debra :D

Thanks Kaycee and Jane,
I do have all the later details for this family, but I would like to identify any of Martha's UNDERWOOD siblings who were likely to have been born either side of 1808 (Martha's approx birth year). I believe that only post 1813 baptisms for Gedling are included on FamilySearch.
As I can't find Martha in 1851, I don't have a specific place of birth other than "in the county".

I am also looking for Oldfields.
Mary Ann born in Cherterfield, Derby, England on 30 Jan 1831 to William Oldfield and Martha Underwood.
Mary Ann married John McEnnulty and had 6 children.
When John died Mary re-married a John Joseph McSoley and had two more children
She passed away on 4 Mar 1889 in Longford, Tasmania, Australia.
Have been unable to find her coming into Australia - nothing on her before her marriage to John

Hi cookie4416,
I am not related to these families but my initial query came about while trying to help someone on the Australian board. Here is a link to the topic but it is very long and quite difficult to follow as the OP kept modifying her posts, so it appears to not make much sense.

The short story is that Mary Ann UNDERWOOD married Charles Edward THOMAS in Tasmania in 1860 and we were trying to find Mary Ann's origins. When Charles and Mary Ann married, John and Mary Ann McENNULTY were the witnesses. In trying to find whether or not there might be a family relationship I discovered that Mary Ann OLDFIELD/McENNULTY's mother Martha also had UNDERWOOD as a maiden surname, so perhaps she was Mary Ann UNDERWOOD's aunt. Of course the names could just be a coincidence, but with no other clues, it is worth pursuing.
UNDERWOOD/THOMAS marriage:

I didn't keep my notes so I am doing this from memory, but I see that on another of your posts, Cando offered a possible immigration record record for Mary Ann OLDFIELD and it is the same one that I had found previously. I would have to agree that it very closely matches your girl, apart from her mother's name. She arrived in NSW on an assisted passage then made her way to Tasmania to her family.
Agincourt arrived NSW 1848
Mary Ann OLDFIELD
aged 18
House Servant
Born Chesterfield, Derbyshire
Parents William and Sarah living in Nottingham
I wouldn't be concerned about her mother's name being recorded as Sarah instead of Martha, there are many errors in the immigration records. It is the only record which comes close to being her but you also need to remember that many immigration records have not survived, particularly into Tasmania.
You probably already know the story of Mary Ann's sister Hariett OLDFIELD being transported in 1846, and this appears to be the beginning of them all coming over. A third sister Maria also came and married in 1862. John and Mary Ann McENNULTY also witnessed Maria's marriage.

I think there is a strong possibility that Maria came into Victoria with her father William in 1858:
OLDFIELD WILLIAM 53 MAR 1858 ROYAL CHARTER B 143 004
OLDFIELD MARIA 10 MAR 1858 ROYAL CHARTER B 143 004

Maria's age is not quite right, she would have been closer to 14, but again it is not unusual to find ages incorrectly recorded. I did check the original manifest back in 2011 and from memory there was no extra info there, not even a place of origin so it is difficult to know if it was your William. You may like to check yourself, the fiche are available at many libraries and family history societies.
