Hi Jane,

Mary's death appears in the Ryerson Index. You can request a copy.

http://ryersonindex.net/search.php

Death Notice 25 Dec 2004 and Funeral Notice 30 Dec (Border Mail Albury)

I am becoming concerned that we may be discussing a living person here as we have not located a death or burial for Reginald.

Cheers Kris  :)

Hi all

Thanks very much for the death notice of Mary and the emmigration record.

It didnt dawn on me Kris that I could be in breach of the rules....I know this chap was age 71 in 1990 and was not in the best of health at the time but it is only 21yrs ago so I suppose he could be alive still and in his 90s now

Thanks again

Jane

The Border Mail, Dec 28, 2004

There are two other separate notices - one from Bronwyn, Michael, Tim and Elizabeth, one from fellow residents and staff members of Bolga Court Aged Care Facility, Tallangatta.

Funeral to Tallangatta Cemetery.  Undertakers: Riddingtons, Tallangatta, Corryong.

This aged care facility is still in the phone book:
Bolga Court Hostel

Lakeside Drv
Tallangatta, 3700

You may be able to find his death by writing to them.  Tallangatta is not a big place so you may be lucky to find someone at the Hostel who can help you.  The other place to try might be the undertakers.  Some of them are very helpful in passing on family information  :) - some aren't  :(

Riddingtons
Akuna Ave
Tallangatta, 3700
Victoria Australia (02) 6071-2541

If phoning from overseas leave off the first 0 in these numbers.

Good luck - Judith

I'm not sure if this is the correct way to reply. This is my first visit to this site.
Reginald George Orton died in Tallangatta, Victoria, Australia, on 4th July, 1997.
He was my father's younger brother.
But there appears to be a discrepancy in detail. All other details provided in this string match, except that Reg was born in Preston, Victoria, Australia. He met "Pat" Hanlon in England while he was serving there in the airforce during the War.

Correct.

I am curious, though.
As an Aussie I spend lots of time looking for details of my ancestors in the UK. I am curious about someone in the UK who is searching for details of an Aussie family.
Maybe there is something we don't know!?

Alistair.
p.s. Joseph Richard Orton had English ancestors. His wife Minnie Russell had Scottish and Canadian ancestors.

Perhaps Jane will  soon be online in the forum again and see your reply.

It may be the HANLON side that is her particular interest  :D.

Hi Jane,
I'm not sure how far I should go with this... maybe I should try to get in touch with my cousins, whom I have not seen for years. I was only about nine years old when the war ended, and Reg and Pat came to live in Melbourne. My parents and I were living in country Victoria, and seldom got to Melbourne.
Reg was the youngest of 3... my father, Russell Orton was the eldest, then Marj, then Reg.
For reasons that I never understood, we did not have much contact with Reg and Pat and their children. They had three children - Angela, James and Bronwyn. Auntie Marj kept in touch with them and they all came to Marj's funeral.....  Jim also came to my dad's funeral... but we were not told about Reg's death until after his funeral.
I had visited Reg and Pat in Tallangatta in 1997, just a few months before Reg died. If the Hanley rellies in  UK are interested, I could try to find the addresses of Reg and Pat's family members.
