Minnie Alice Maude, aged 72, d. 25/09/1956 Tamahere, buried 28/09/1956 Hamilton East Cemetery. Could anyone look for a death notice in Hamilton newspaper around those dates, please? All details from death notice would be much appreciated.
Many thanks

Many thanks, Althea, but I am not after a photo of grave. I am after any family details which might - if I am lucky - appear in the newspaper death notice.

Hi CuriousDiana ,
I see on the cemetery database that it states "Last Address Death Reg At Otaki " which in Wellington, maybe the Wellington papers had a notice.

Thanks, Janette, for your reply. I'll follow that up, using the sites listed on this board, but it seems unlikely. Minnie married in Hamilton in 1913 and lived there mostly for the next 40 years, and according to her death cert "Where died: Woodcocks Road, Tamahere from Taylors /road, Auckland". So she may have lived in Auckland for a short time before her death. Hamilton was her home and where she was buried. I have no idea why her death would have been registered in Wellington. I am not a New Zealander and am not familiar with the system. However, her death cert states "Deaths Registered in the Office of the Registrar of Births and Deaths at Hamilton during the Quarter ending 30th September 1956". Maybe at the end of each quarter copies were sent to Wellington??
My original request still stands. It is the possibility of family information that I am seeking, the kind you get from a newspaper death notice. As her home had been Hamilton and she was buried in Hamilton I thought that would be the logical place to find a death notice.
If anyone can help with this it would be much appreciated.

Hi CuriousDiana
Yes Hamilton has WAIKATO TIMES newspaper
but also many people would still use the NZ HERALD newspaper
so that is another possibility.
An email to Hamilton Library may be worthwhile, many libraries in NZ seem happy to do one off lookups

Hi Diana
Let me know if you have no luck with the Hamilton Library email and I'll go and have a look next time I'm in town- might not be this week :)

Hi Ellvera
I have just had a reply back from my email to Hamilton Library. Unfortunately there was no death notice in the Waikato Times.
I guess my next step would be to check the NZ Times. If your offer still holds, I would appreciate if you could do this for me.

Hi Diana
My offer was for Waikato Times
Unfortunately the Hamilton Library doesn't hold historic copies of the NZ Herald (if that is what you mean)I think you need the Auckland library for that.
Sorry not to have been able to help after all

Thanks for your reply, Barbara. I'll try an email to Auckland Library.

just a ps, mainly for others who contributed to the thread and see it is now completed, or if anyone else is curious, Diana :D
... the notice appeared just one once, in the Herald of Friday 28th September 1956. Images emailed and appreciated, as the notice had the hoped for info.
