Yes. I met 5 cousins I had not seen since 1954. We have now had a reunion and are pooling our resorces on our Family Tree search. I have been given numerous photos and information about my family, especially my Dad who died when I was 9 in 1954.

been on this site around a year now, never thought it might happen as my family are well distributed around the world, but thanks to the "one name" board, now correspond to a cousin I never knew I had in the channel islands, and we hope to meet later in 2011, it's all down to the wonderful community that thrives here, bit like a family in itself.

Yes. Met up with second cousin of my mother in-laws. Shared information one afternoon.
Also had relations on the father in-laws side come over from England October 2009, and found out there where more family living here in New Zealand on his grandfathers side who moved to New Zealand a number of years ago from Yorkshire, so we are off to visit them in a couple of weeks.
Very handy little site to find long lost relations, just wish I could find more on my mother's side.

Through rootschat and with the help of Google, a cousin in the US got in touch with me, and the outcome of that was the reuniting of my father with his half-brothers, whom he hadn't seen or heard from in over 40 years.
In the chatroom one night I was lamenting about another branch of the tree, and a chatter mentioned there was someone with that name looking for family at GenesReunited. After reading what she said, I joined up just so I could write to the person. She is the 2nd cousin of my father, who was orphaned at a young age and never had contact with the paternal side of her family, and in fact it seemed to have been actively discouraged. She was 73 when we met up and she had not known a single paternal relative.

:) Went to Canada, USA (a letter from Gt Grandma, linked us together) .
New Zealand (visiting friends and found family in same place and at New Year party, was chatting away merrily to descendants).
South Africa ( I went visiting, OH played cricket) both OH's and mine in same town !!!
Oxfordshire to Sussex ( so we all met up in the local pub)
Down to Tiverton for the newest cuz.

had contact from a rellie on this site and the time I was in the Yorkshire on holiday and the best part was that I was staying only 11 miles away from where he lived. So we were able to meet up and exchange information and pictures which was great.
Cheers

Yes, a few have joined Rootschat to contact me. I think they all "googled" ancestor's names and found my rootschat posts requesting information about them. Most seem to be 'fifth cousins twice removed'. ;D I haven't met any of them person to person though ...
-
Yep, second cousin once removed.
I was randomly googling for info on my grandma, and stumbled upon a post he'd made.
He's helped me out immensely with the research and I've repayed him with photographs and random family gossip and info!
Have found lots of other possible, very distant relatives, but haven't made contact.
:)

Yes Kellisto and I are cousins something removed ;D I have been trying to find my Mum's Great Grandfather for years and then Kellisto popped up and sent me a PM saying 'A Rellie that's fantastic', we were both looking for the same man. He came over from Ireland and visited my Mum and me at her flat which was lovely. We've still not found our ancestor though.
Also
I found my friend's step brother and sister she didn't know she had.
I was trying to find her Father's buriel place knowing he went to Sweden when he left her and her Mum. I put a post up on RC asking if anyone could tell me how to go about it. Her step brother was trying to find out more about their father's football years (he used to play for Burnley) so he googled his name and up popped my RC post. He sent me a PM, I phoned my friend who was in shock for the rest of the night. The next day she sent him an email, and now they are in constant touch.
If it hadn't been for RC they might never have known about each other.

My husbands great niece contacted me last year through RC when she was looking for information about her great grandmother, my mother in-law after she saw a post I had done about 4 or 5 years ago.
My husband met his older sister for the first time last august and he has two nieces, a great nephew and two great nieces with whom we are in constant contact with now.

Lyne ;D

Yes, over a year ago a 2nd I think cousin, we help each other and e-mail 3/4 times a week. What is spooky is although i am much older we think the same on daily issues, and definitely share many family traits.
Without rootschat I would not have found her :)

Yes, I have found a 4th cousin (Cancan) and a 4th cousin once removed (Holtfamilytree) both as a direct result of Rootschat.
I have met Cancan but not Holtfamilytree as yet. We are regularly in touch, share research and help each out.

Luzzu,
By chance I found your post about Adelaide Dillon from Malta when I googled the Dillon family from Malta. I believe she is my great great grandmother. Her daughter Angelina married my great grandfather Frederick Wimbury. She was born in Canada in about 1870 and was living in Gorton in 1891 RG12/3171?104 P6 and in 1901 RG13?3685/27 P45.
You have given me lots of information already which is wonderful and I wonder if you have all your information about them in one place please? Please could you tell me how to look for the Canadian details as I don't know where in Canada Angelina was born. How on earth did you find out so much? Thanks for the information as I've just started my family research.
I joined this site and it looks great! Most of my parents relatives are from Lancashire - Manchester and Bolton area.
Are you related to the Dillon family? Are we related?
-
Hi Grundy51,
:D :D ;D ;D :D :D
Welcome to Rootschat. I am in shock. You could be the breakthrough I have been looking for. First of all we are not related but why I am researching the Dillons is a long, long story. You need to make a couple more posts on Rootschat and then you can send and receive PM's - personal messages. I haven't come across Angelina before - is she Mary Ann?
The main question I want to ask is do you know where Adelaide was born and when and where did she marry Henry Dillon.

Hi again Grundy51,
Forgot to mention that posts of "The Lighter Side" board don't count so you need to make some posts on maybe the Lancashire board. I think you need three to be able to send and receive personal messages.

Yes, I've met a couple here and had great help finding even more.
Rootschat has linked relatives and been the genesis of several romances and marriages.
This is THE best genealogy website!
Thanks Trystan and Sarah!
