I'm looking for a family of the above name in Liverpool in the latter 1800s. As you can imagine, the spelling is freestyle! Here's the info I have so far:
John HOUCHILD m Frances Ann Greenfield in 1848. John was a rigger, from Germany (Hamburg or Hanover?) and the family lived in the Toxteth area.
children, all on BMD as HOUCHILD:
Jane Elizabeth (1850 - 52)
Hannah Elizabeth 1853 -
Frances 1855 -
Jane 1858 -
Louisa 1861 -
William 1863 -
Ida 1867 -
Frances (mum) died 1871 and I have the family in the 1871 census (Houchild).
John remarried as Hauchildt to Susannah in 1880; they, with Ida, are in the 1881 census transcribed as Hiuschildt.
Ida HAUSCHILDT m August Denker in 1889 and emigrated to USA. Her father, John is in the 1891 census as a widow named KAUSCHILDT. His second wife died in 1885.
I can't find any of Ida's siblings after the 1871 census, dead or alive, single or married! Can anyone help?
thanks :)

Aha! Thankyou!I tried lancsBMD last night but didn't get anywhere - I wonder why? Anyway, thankyou again :)
-
oh oh oh
the Greenfields intermarried quite a bit (1st cousin marraiges)
but it looks as though Frances Houchild (daughter of Frances Greenfield) married her maternal uncle, George Greenfield - which isn't legal, is it? :o
-
I used the phonetic search option.
Could there be a cousin with the same name? I don't think uncle niece marriages were legal. You'l have to find them on a census and see how the ages compare!!!!

Hi,
I came across your message last night I have this family in my tree, I say it this way because I too have found any number of spelling variations of the surname.
John Houchild & Frances A Greenfield were married in 1881 20 238. Jane Elizabeth, Hannah Elizabeth, Frances m Joseph Bethell, Louisa, William Ida Adeline I have in my tree.
I have Hannah Elizabeth's tree when she married John Henry Lundbeck lots of variations on his surname.
Do you have access to Ancestry web site, I would rather keep my tree private
or I could email you details of what I have, if we are singing off the same hymn sheet.

Hello Jim - my ancestors were the Greenfield bunch - are we related? :)
-
Hi,
Yes I think it possible, seeing as I said Frances married John Houchild.
I believe her parents were William 1802 - 1886 & Margaret Savage? 1807 - 1884
Hannah married john Henry Lundbeck one of their sons Ernest born 1891 married Mary Ellen Mercer b 1893.
I have found a christening for her on LDS but they have her surname as Grinfield 2 Sep 1830 St.Michael.
Mercer was my Mums maiden name.
Anything else let me know.
Bfn,
Jim
