The family are in Winton in 1901 but have no additional children after Percy
Edwin is now shown as b Wimborne Dorset

Looking again at the 1891 image - immediately above Edwin's name there is an 18yr old Edith Pearce occ servant b Compton Wiltshire
If you have a look at the 1881 entry - he is shown as Edwin J G Pearce b Wimborne Dorset and Annie is Hannah
http://www.familysearch.org/eng/search/frameset_search.asp?PAGE=census/search_census.asp
This is their marriage from freebmd

1891 census of South Stoneham parish (Southampton), Hants RG12; Piece: 926; Folio 46; Page 30 - 17, Priory Road
Edward Pearce 34 Head of Household born Hants, Pennington* : a Painter
Elizabeth Pearce 39 Wife born Dorset, ?Chalberry?
Percy Pearce 5 son born Lymington (matches a later census for PoB)
Eva Pearce 1 dau born Southampton
*Pennington is linked to Lymington.....
1901 census of Portswood parish (Southampton), Hants RG13; Piece: 1070; Folio: 53; Page: 35
- 210 Priory Road
Elizabeth Pearce 49 MARRIED Wife born Dorset Chalbury
Percy Pearce 14 son born Hants, Lymington: Gordon Boy' (S) - suspect this was the school established by General Gordon of Kartoum - google for more info.
Eva Pearce 10 dau Southampton
Mabel Pearce 9 dau ditto
Maud Pearce 7 dau ditto
cant find Edward elsewhere in the 1901 ....
cant see a marriage going back as far as the 1860s and forward into the 20th C
cant see any combination of a Percy born in the Lymington District of Hants.
-
Here is Edward with his parents and siblings in the 1871 census of Milford (Lymington District) - RG10; Piece: 1175; Folio: 10; Page: 18
He shows PoB as Pennington here, but in 1861 he showed Milford
James Pearce 48 Head of Household born Lymington: a Bricklayer
Emma Pearce 43 Wife born Lymington
Edward Pearce 14 son Pennington
Harry Pearce 12 ditto
Frank Pearce 7 ditto
Walter Pearce 5 ditto
John Pearce 1 ditto
In 1861 he had a sister named Argentina !
He seems to be married to an Eliza Ann in the 1881 Lymington census - RG11; Piece: 1189; Folio: 64; Page: 24
see what you think ? But his occupation is 'Tailor' - not at all in the line of his Father, or his own later occupation of (House) Painter ?
so this would be the marriage:-
Marriages Dec 1877
Lewis Eliza Ann Lymington 2b 1159
Miller James Lymington 2b 1159
Pearce Edward Lymington 2b 1159
Simpkins Sarah Ann Lymington 2b 1159
No - that couple are still around in the 1891 census
-
Elizabeth Shears is also a bit esoteric about her origins - despite being specific about her PoB in 1891 onward, the only sight of her is in 1871 in Service in Poole, Dorset.
In 1881 in the Lymington area theres a widowed Elizabeth Garland, born c1852, Chalbury Common - a marriage can be seen of an Elizabeth Shears to a John Garland just prior in the area - but no following marriage to an Edward P before 1891 :(
-
Hi
Percy was b. christchurch Bournemouth 1886
Is this birthplace from the 1911 census or somewhere else?
The free 1911 index has a match for a Percy Pearce b Bournemouth - he is 24yrs old and living in Christchurch
The same index has a Percy Pearce aged 23 b Lymington also living in Christchurch
So which one is yours - the 24yr old - born 1886/1887 or the 23yr old b 1887/1888
-
Hi Carole - I latched on to the newly quoted parent's names, and a Percy born Lymington in all census 1891 onward
agree it would help if all info were presented accurately and at the same time ;)
-
Hi Mort
Happy New Year - completely agree - no mention of mothers name at outset which would have helped
Also - Lymington was not in the Christchurch Registration district - it was Hampshire
-
sorry - meant to say HNY ! :D
-
Hi Elizabeth Shears did marry John Garland so your info is right there,as acc to m/cert (I have),.
and no marriage like you say for Edward so I guess they did not marry.
there are 2 Percy's on free bmd under Hampshire and I ordered both and they are both the same person with a Henry as father.
so where can I obtain a cert?
-
One assumes you are happy with the 1891/190 census info for Percy - the Gordon Boys note is interesting ... http://www.gordons.surrey.sch.uk/history
Anyway, I have looked again at Lymington born Percys, and in the light of his mother being a Garland .....
Try this lads certificate
Births Jun 1886
Garland Percy Lymington 2b 651
Out of interest, can you tell me - from the Garland / Shears Marriage Cert - who Elizabeth's father was (and his occupation)
-
Hi Mort, on m/cert Elizabeths Father was James Shears occ:
Schoolmaster def married Poole Dorset.1876.
-
Thanks - have a strong suspicion that she fabricated that name of a Father - no sign of him in 1851/61 .... linked to Chalbury, Dorset.
What about the other info I gave - see the logic?
-
soz Mort wrong occ; looking again he was a SHOEMAKER!
-
to be specific - there was NO James S of any occupation of an age and in the area to be her Father.
Again - was the info about a Birth entry for Percy GARLAND of use?
-
Hi Mort, strange had look at m/cert father James, on b/ cert
the name is John?
as for Garland may have to order b/cert to find out if right one what do you think?
