Caroline Wright married Hugh Carmichael of Dublin. He died in 1860 and she in 1869. I am well able to follow the history of the Carmichael side of the family but thus far have had no luck with the Wrights...Anyone with any clues?

Do you have any other details ?
.. i.e. their religion, what part of Dublin city or county they lived, where and when they married etc
Full civil registration started in 1864, so you would need to check for available parish records to work further back.
see : Introduction to Irish Records (http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php/topic,442233.0.html)
p.s. was Hugh a surgeon ?

Hi Shane,
Thanks for your reply.
My guess is that the Carmichaels were Church of Ireland, as Jamesina - my Gt Gran - was christened at St Nicholas Without, Dublin - which was C of I.
Googling "Hugh Carmichael+architect" I got this:
Selected: CARMICHAEL, HUGH
Born: -
Died: 1860

The surgeon - Hugh Richard Carmichael - was his uncle.
I have no idea where Caroline Wright came from or whether they got married in Ireland, let alone Dublin. From Jamesina's "Reminiscences" they must have been
a reasonably well-off family - as she made pointed observations about the Irish obsession with maintaining appearances - even when the money'd run out. This did not refer to her own family, but to some neighbours - who had the dining room
beautifully lit and the table laid with all its finery. This was visible from the street, however, they drew the curtains before the meal was served as they actually ate in the kitchen, because they no longer had serving staff etc. Shame - dignity before all else!
As all the Irish Census records, for the period that would have helped me, have been destroyed - I'm not quite sure where to go from now.
Best regards
Tess

Do you have details (dates, locations) on baptisms for any of their children ?

Hi again Shane,
The only one I know of thus far is Jamesina's, which was on the 3rd March 1852, at St Nicholas Without, Dublin.
I will see if I can find any others on the 'net.
Best regards
Tess

I was thinking that tracing back the births of the children could lead back to the parish where they married....

Catherine Lucy Anne Carmichael born 21 Feb 1842 at 2 Harcourt St so the marriage would obviously predate this

Says here that Hugh and Caroline married in 1840 where ?
and had a son called Frideswide Carmichael who died young

might be a Wicklow connection

they have Hugh's father as Andrew Blair Carmichael 1782 to 1822

Remembering that this post is five years old...
Hugh CARMICHAEL and Caroline WRIGHT had three children that were baptised in Booterstown
Hugh 1848; Caroline 1850 and Florence Emily 1855
Hugh CARMICHAEL son of Andrew Blair CARMICHAEL was probably in 1818 born in Dublin- LINK (http://churchrecords.irishgenealogy.ie/churchrecords/details/c5acc20187542)
It looks as if Andrew Blair CARMICHAEL died in Dublin in 1821 rather than in India as the Haddock site suggests - LINK (http://churchrecords.irishgenealogy.ie/churchrecords/details/f462b10448570)
Unless there was more than one man of the same name at that time
As it was previously stated that Hugh Richard CARMICHAEL, doctor, was the uncle of the Hugh being researched; his alumni 1824 record refers to him as the son of Andrew; born in Dublin and aged 17 on Feb 03 1807.
An Andrew Blair CARMICHAEL married a Jane SWIFT in 1825- LINK (http://churchrecords.irishgenealogy.ie/churchrecords/details/82ceb90568510)
This may be Hugh's brother? or cousin? as no father's name is given
Which means that a Jane CALDBECK could be considered as Hugh's mother -see 1801 marriage LINK (http://churchrecords.irishgenealogy.ie/churchrecords/details/c7195a0552453)

I have made a tiny bit of progress, as I took advantage of the freebie weekend on FindmyPast
recently.
There was an obituary for Caroline Carmichael nee Wright, which described her as the last surviving daughter of James Wright, of the Leeds Woollen Hall, Corn-Market, Dublin. I believe James to have been from Leeds himself. He married Catherine Freeman in 1835, but Caroline and her brothers
were born years earlier (C. c1820) so it's probably that there was an earlier wife.
James died at Lisnaskea, 1853.
I seem to see an Edward Wright later associated with the Woollen Hall....does he ring bells with anyone, was he Caro's brother?
