I am researching a John Nelson who was born in Dornock 1837-1838. I have found a Birth record for a John Nelson born 8th May 1837 Stapleton Toll-Gate Dornock Parrish, the son of John Nelson. This is the best match to the person I am researching. Neither of theses two John Nelson's match the 1841 or 1851 census for the Dumfries Annan area. John Nelson lived in Berkhamstead from 1861 to his death in 1907.

Hi. I think he was the son of John Nelson and Jean Johnstone, one of a family of 10 siblings. Some of the family are at Dalebank in Brydekirk parish, Dumfries shire in 1841, he may possibly have been a farm servant in Dumfries in 1851, and he has begun his career as a draper in Berkhamstead in 1861. I know quite a bit about his siblings. Cheers.

Thank you, that confirms what I have discovered too. He was my great grandfather so any other information re siblings may be of interest.

The 10 siblings I have found are; William, born Middlebie 1826, married Jane Selkirk in Kirkpatrick Fleming (KP) in 1860, 4 children; George, born KF 1828, married Helen McKay in Annan in 1854, 8 children; Mary, born KF 1829; Jean, born KF 1830, possibly married John Forsyth in KP in 1855, 5 children; Margaret, born KF 1832, married Joseph Murray in Cumberland in 1860, 12 children; Janet, born KF 1834, probably not married; John, born 1837 in Dornock, married Sarah Figg in London in 1866, 11 children; Irving Nelson, born 1838 in Brydekirk, married William Cutcliffe in Tring in 1869, 4 children; James, born 1840 in Morton; and Helen, born 1843 in Annan. Hope this is helpful.
