Hello all,
I have been expanding, correcting and annotating A J Gautrey's 40 year old study on this family, The Fews of Cambridgeshire, for several years now and have called it Beyond the Fews of Cambridgeshire.
I have over 3,000 names and dozens of families and the original 36 page document is now 137 pages long.
However, there are, inevitably, many holes that need information to help fill them. If anyone has information they'd like me to include please do get in contact.
Looking forward to hearing from you,
Brian Hunt

on 10 A$ pages.
If you would like a copy, kindly send me a postal address via pm.

Hello Victor and Briannicus,
I am a new member and my great grandmother was Ann Few, whose father John Few was born in Ely in 1802, son of Robert Few and Sarah King.
As yet I have been unable to acquire a copy of Gautrey's study but would be very keen to do so. Brian's study sounds very impressive and I would be interested to contribute info/learn more if I can.
Victor's burials lists also sounds excellent and I will contact via pm as he suggests.
Best wishes,
James

Hi Gascony and welcome
The PM system will not work until you have a couple more posts. Just click reply on this thread and add something and then it should work when you click on the green scroll under the user name.

Thank you Andrea, that is very helpful.
Something to add would be that Ann Few's mother was a laundress to the Royal Family and her daughter was born on the same day as Queen Victoria's first child - Nov 21 1840. The Queen presented her with a silver salver to commemorate the coincidence, now sadly lost.
Ann had two sisters, Emma and Harriett, and later in life started to call herself Victoria.

John Few, born 1802, later became a miller in Norfolk and died in 1875 in Manea, Cambridgeshire. He married Ann Cochrane (formerly Taylor) in Marylebone in 1837 and had previously been married to Martha Butteris.

I just happened upon this site - not sure if the thread is still active. I have a copy of the Gautrey paper from 1972; Mr Gautrey wrote to my father and offered a copy for £1!. I'd very much like to get a copy of the updated version if anyone can point me to it.

Hello Briannicus,
I'd be really interested in a copy of Beyond the Fews if that's possible please.
It's my mum's side of the family and we had a copy of the original from which I copied only a few details back in 1997 but the actual book has disappeared over the years due to deaths etc.
So a new updated copy would be great to see.
Would be nice to see who William 34, Abraham3 and John 19 were and then jump backwards using the tables and all the new things you've added as well!
Best wishes
Kevin

I also have a copy of Gautreys booklet.
My great great grandfather (Benjamin?) moved from Willingham (we think) to take up a role as a gardener in London.
Been to Willingham with my brother.
I think we may have discovered several possible family members of Few and intermarried other surnames, possible particularly an Edward Few died in 1836.
My grandfather was Harry Edward b.1884 and his brother Benjamin b. 1889. They also had a sister Winifred?
Would love to contact any relatives in Willingham. Thank you
