Can anybody help me find information on William Corcoran, whose home was at Hughes Lot, Cashel, Co. Tipperary, Ireland.
He was in World War 1, and the information I have is that he was killed on 6 May 1918, age 18. His rank was Private we believe, and we think he might have joined the Munster Regiment. I have checked the CWGC site, but nothing comes up.

This is the only William Corcoran with a Munster connection which shows on the Medal Index Search of the National Archives:
Medal card of Corcoran, William
Corps: Royal Munster Fusiliers
Regiment No: 5466
Rank: Private
As you say, he does not appear on the CWGC site, nor does any William Corcoran registered there show the death date you have. Where does your information about the date of his death come from?

Thank you for that jds1949.
I am researching information on William Corcoran on behalf of a friend - and the date of his death came from her.

Having thought about it I'm a little dubious that the one I posted would have been an 18 year old in 1918. A four figure number usually means either pre-war or early enlistment and I can't see anyone born in 1900 enlisting pre-war or much before the end of 1916. However, one thing I have learnt is that there are often exceptions - perhaps you need to find a Munster Regiment expert who could advise you with more certainty.
Might I suggest you try posting on the Great War Forum as well as this one:

Mention Munster Regiment in the heading.

is this the family in the 1911 census?
http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/pages/1911/Tipperary/Cashel_Rural/Hughes__Lot__East/840789/
If so, William is listed as 18 in 1911.

That's fantastic Johnny. I never thought of looking at the Census. I contacted my friend with your suggestion, and you are absolutely right! I can now go ahead with getting her all the relevant information for her ancestor.
My grateful thanks again.

it would be worth double checking if anyone in the family has his medals. They should be inscribed with his name and number.
-
Hello Johnny,
Good point! I will get my friend to check this out. It would be fantastic if someone has them!
-
Just in case it is him, you can get a copy of his gravestone from this site but costs £3.

Or email this kind man and ask if he has a copy( they are free of charge on this site )
http://www.britishwargraves.co.uk/page14.htm Scroll down the page, it list the cemetery so should have his gravestone?

Hello the bell. I did all this on behalf of my friend Constance (she is a niece of the late William). Perhaps you know her?

Recently started researching the Corcoran branch of the family, from Cashel. I believe my Great Great Grandfather was Patrick Corcoran. Patrick was a Town Sergeant in Cashel and worked for the Town Commissioners. I believe he had a son called John, who was the informant on his death certificate. This is the same John Corcoran, the father of William Corcoran you are looking for.

Hi Menapi,
Your Great Great Grandfather Patrick Corcoran married Mary Barry. They had a son John Corcoran.
John married Kate Morrissey.
They had 13 children, of which 10 were living: see 1911 Census for 4 Hughes Lot East, Cashel. Also see 1901 Census.
One of their children William joined the Leinster Regiment at the outbreak of WW1. He served in France and Flanders, and was killed on 6 November 1917.
Another of their children Patrick went to USA. He worked as a shipping clerk in Boston, then enlisted with the U.S. Army at Boston. He served with them in France, and was honourably discharged from the U.S. Army in April 1919.
Do you know anything about a story behind the reasons William joined the British Army, and Patrick went to USA?
