i am trying to ascertain who Anna Moulding is
the 1891 census shows
William Richards 70 head widower hoisery dealer
Anna Moulding 72 sister in law widow laundress
Maria Leverton 65 sister widow
All born Leicester
: RG12; 2523; 120; 14;
Reading Street South Thurmaston
William Richards is my gt gt gt grandfather he was christened 21.02.1821 ST Margarets Leicester the son of William & Elizabeth
he had a brother George b. 1818 & a sister Maria b. 1826
Maria in this census is his sister Maria she married Thomas Leverton of Nottingham they didn’t have any children and she died in January 1892
William married Mary Ann Oram 25.12.1838 at St Margarets Leicester
William = Royal East Street Leicester at time of marriage
witnesses to marriage Charles Cox and Ann Yates his father is William
Mary = Craven Street Leicester at time of marriage given as a minor and the daughter of Jesse Oram
her bp. 24.11.1822 Enderby gives her mother as Martha
William Richards died in 1900
i do not know who Anna is but the 1901 census shows
David Richards 49
Susannah 48
Emma 21
Ellen E 18
Rose 13
Hannah Moulding 81 mother in law
: RG13; 2986; 141; 27.
David is William Richards son and Susannah is his wife Sarah Susannah nee Gazey
David is my gt gt grandfather
please help me as i am confused :)
-
Ok - so she is his sister in law
So - she could be married to his brother - looks like you might have ruled that one out if you have foolowed all his brothers
or
She could be a sister of his wife - therefore you need to find if Anna/Hannah's maiden name was Oram
or
he could be using the term more loosely, maybe she is widow of his sisiters husbands sister (just an example) or something else more distant and he has used sister in law for ease
or
she is a step sister (inlaw sometimes used in place of step)
-
thanks for your reply Liz
i do not know who George married however if she was married to his brother would she not have the surname Richards ?
i do not have any siblings for Mary Ann Oram i had hoped she was Hannah / Anna Oram and she married Mr Moulding but i cannot see a marriage that matches for that to be the case - this would be the most sensible answer
Maria was Williams only sister and she is with Thomas Leverton until he dies so not a wife of him
AND
why would she be listed as Mother in law to David she should be aunty if she is davids fathers sister / sister in law
can you see why i am confused !!
-
i am pretty certain that Mary Ann Orams father was Jesse from the marriage details at St Margarets however in my online notes i do not have her fathers name written down
the 1822 christening at Enderby for Mary Anne Oram with mother Martha shows no fathers name given indicating perhaps she was illegitimate
in 1828 (17 Jan) at Enderby Martha Oram married Matthias Spencer
i have found the 1841 census for this Martha & Matthias
Enderby Village
Matthias Spencer 45 grocer
Martha 45
Mary 15
Ann 10
Eliza 5
all BIC
HO107; 600; 18; : ; 1;
however if that is Mary b. 1822 she should be with William Richards and married by now
i note there is a child Ann this could be Anna / Hannah but her age is out 10 years
so maybe the Mary bp. in 1822 is not mine and she is not the daughter of Martha but still is the daughetr of Jesse which doesnt help as i still dont have any siblings for her :-\

thanks again Mike, its all coming together nicely
:)
now to find the girls christenings
-
the 1841 census i found was the same as the one Trish found :-[
from this age and the age at burial in 1851 it would appear he was born circa 1778
other than the 1784 bp. Trish found in Dorset there was another Jesse bp. 1778 also in Dorset
Jesse Oram
Male
Christening 22 Nov 1778
Shaftesbury, Dorset, England
Father's name: Edward Oram
:-\
he & Jane should appear on the 1851 census this might confirm their p.o.b
Jane should also appear in 1861
-
i found him transcribed as Jope was searching and searching for Jesse since yesterday then decided to search for Jane and there he was Jope ;D
FWK b. Broughton or is it Boughton ? Leicestershire anyway not Dorset :-\ age consisten with 1841 and burial
Jane b. Harborne possibly Harborugh
-
and the 1861 for Jane
Catherine Marston 56 head FMK b. Leicester
John Marston 30 son b. do.
Jane Oram 80 Mother b. Market Harborough
: RG9; 2297; 59; 20;
1 friars rd All Saints

and i think we are now getting somewhere
:) :) :)
from IGI
FANNY ORAM
Birth:
15 SEP 1805
Christening:
18 SEP 1805 All Saints, Leicester, Leicester, England
Death:
10 JUN 1809
Parents:
JESSE ORAM
JANE
from the same batch
CATHARINE ORAM
Birth:
04 APR 1804
Christening:
06 APR 1804 All Saints, Leicester, Leicester, England
Father: JESSE ORAM
Mother: ANNE
Catherine ties in with the one in 1861 so possibly Jesse was married to Anne unknown she died betwixt 1804 & 1805 when Jesse married Jane Green and had more children - if Mary Oram was born 1822 as it would appear than Jane would have been 41ish
-
Hello
The actual date of Jesse and Jane's marriage taken from Leicester & Leicestershire marriages CD is 16 January 1804.
Catherine Oram marriage to Richard Marson at Leicester All Saints 21 September 1828 By Banns both of this parish information from same CD.
Also Welford Road Cemetery CD Richard Marston burial 11 May 1856 aged 52yrs Friars Road All Saints Leicester. I think 1861 census shows Catherine as head and Widow.
Hope this helps
Bunnygirl

thanks Bunnygirl that is very helpful, :) does it say if Jesse is a widow as catharines mother is given as Anne on IGI
in the same ploti think there was a Sarah Clarke Marriage….:~

not yet found any christenings to Jesse & Jane after 1808
-
Hi toni,
No the record gives no more information, but if Mike is going to check the original PR, that may well give you an answer. There are no other Jesse Oram's marrying an Ann(e) on the CD and the dates are from 1754-1837, but there could have married out of the county?; I'll check the NBI and get back to you

Hi Toni, I was just browsing this forum and noticed your message about the Moulding Family. My father's first wife was Ethel Moulding, and I do have Hannah Oram in the tree, married to Thomas.
Thomas's brother John was the Grandfather of Ethel.
They seemed to have quite a lot of deaths in their families, and Ethel's mother lost two husbands. Her second one being a Graham. I do email one of the Grahams children who now lives in Spain.
I thought you may find this of interest.
-
Hi Eileen thanks for your reply at the moment i can't fit Ethel into my tree can you connect them ?
-
I can only tell you about the Mouldings I'm afraid, but hope it helps a little.
Thomas Moulding 1749 = Mary Sands 1747
one of their sons was John 1787 = Sarah Cook 1782
One of their children was Thomas 1815 = Hanna Oram 1819-1902
He had a brother John 1821 = Sarah Smith 1818
They had several children, one of which was named
Thomas 1842 = Eliza plant 1849
These were the parents of Ethel Moulding 1885? = James Green 1885.
When Thomas died, Eliza wed William Graham. She lived @ 19 Sarah Street. Blackfriars Leic.
Ethel after marriage lived in Mill lane. and Gray street. I often visited her as a child.
