Following a previous thread, I recently googled the archived Aussie newspapers and came across an article in the Mercury (a Tasmanian newspaper, I think) dated 29 August 1919 which refers to the shooting and attempted murder of William Hassan and Annie Schuck by Edward Herbert Salter the day before. I think William Hassan survived, but I've had no luck following up the case to see what happened to the people involved, or if the case ever went to court.
I was wondering if anyone who has better searching skills than me could find anything out.

The shooting took place in Belmore Park, Sydney.
As the other man involved was an actor, Edward Herbert SALTER, I would hazard a guess that this shooting is connected to your William.
Searched using Annie SCHUCKs' name.

Also, I check BDM 1919 NSW the death of Annie. Her name could be Adelaide A. Schuck.

This article says Annie disappeared after being discharged from hospital

Even though it sounds a good connection, I would have thought that it would be just the sort of thing the gossip columns (yes, they even had them in 1919!) would pick up as William was a known performer at that time. http://www.rootschat.com/links/0aup/
Maybe have a look around to see if William might have been in a show with Edward SALTER?
Here is a good one with some background info on William http://www.rootschat.com/links/0auo/

Debra,
you will note that in my post I did state that it was only a guess on my part,
"As the other man involved was an actor, Edward Herbert SALTER, I would hazard a guess that this shooting is connected to your William"
I did not state that it was a definate connection.
