Title: Fisher - Wimblington
Post by: nrf31 on Wednesday 13 April 05 22:32 BST (UK)
Looking for John Fisher born in Wimblington in 1827. His father (accordint to his marriage certificate) is George Fisher (whose occupation is jobber).

Is there any record of him in 1841 or 1851 census - by 1859 he is living in Gedney, Lincolnshire.

Thanks

Hi there,

No access to 1851 but 1841 says the following.

living in the town, wisbech rd, wimblington are

George fisher  60  cattle dealer y
Mary fisher 55                             y
George fisher 25  cattle dealer   y
John fisher 20  Ag Lab                 y
Sarah fisher 20                             y
John fisher 10                             y
Mary fisher 35                              y

Johns age is slightly off, but if you allow for rounding down , then john fisher 10 seems to be correct.

Hope this helps

Thanks for that.

Still confused - why are there two John's in the same house?  Cannot find any record of his birth on IGI.   Yet in 1861 census he is 34, in 1871 44, 1881 54 and 1891 64 so he is consistent in stating he was born in 1826/27.

Hi there,

Can you tell me a bit more about George and Mary, the parents, like where and when they were born and I'll try and do some digging for you.  I have found reference to a George and Mary from St Mary Wesleyan, Ely, and wondered if it is the same people?

Re the two Johns.  You do not have the relationships given there.  It looks as if there could be two generations living there so son and grandson?   Generally it was only ages above 15 that were rounded down in 1841.  You would need to look at a few more entries to see what that particular enumerator did.

Hi Deb,

Sorry we have been unable to contact nrf31, sadly his emails are not working and the reply has bounced back :'(

Lets hope he comes across your message when he is next researching his Fisher family history and gets back intouch.

Regards

Sarah :)
