Hi everyone
Can some one let me know please if the "Lords Supper" was a once a year thing, as l think l was reading some place that it many have been three times a year
As you can see l don't know any help would be grateful
Kind regards
-
If you mean Communion- it would have been twice a year (usually spring and autumn).
-
Hi Aghadowey
Thank you for your very fast answer.
Would you know if there are any records for the Magilligan Church and how l can view them
[ Communion records ] around 1814 or do they start before this time ?
regards
-
What you are looking for are called the Communcants Roll- usually will just list a date and names of the communcants. Not sure what exists for Magilligan Presbyterian Church but perhaps someone else will know.
-
Hi
Thank you for your help
Now l can see if the LDS has filmed the Communicants Rolls for Magilligan Presbyterian Church around 1814 and upwards.
We have found Priscilla Moody and her children listed at the" Lords Supper" in 1814 as well as a Ann Moody and her children
Both Lady's are listed as widows
I was thinking that if l can keep checking each year and then when they didn't show up it may be a date to start checking the death records or cemetery records
thank you
-

Oops, Didn't realise that the site had a timer!!!
Go to HOME at the bottom of the Timed Out page. Enter Magilligan Presbyterian Church in the ANY TEXT box and search. This will show what records are available for the church.

Hi Flicka,

John Moody
Mrs John Moody
Mrs Anne Moody
Anne Moody
New Communicants and those approved of the Cathechisms Nov 1814

Those on this list ' came nearly all to the first Magilligan Communion for the first time'

Margaret Moody
Abraham James Moody
John Moody - L'more (Note this was the only Moody name with a townland written after it)

On a practically illegible page which seems to be a list of widows and children NOT a communicants' list.
Mrs Anne Moody, widow and children. This bit is unclear but the names are John, Elizabeth, James, Alexander, Margaret (probably but
might be Mary)
Mrs (possibly) Prsicilla Moody, widow. Children James, Israel, Elizabeth (not sure), Solomon and Anne (not sure about this one)

Hi
Hoping some one can help with a little more information from the Magilligan church
I would like to know if this is correct
Ann SMITH [Widow]
married 1819 -witness Israel MOODY
William KIRKPATRICK
Their son
Alexander James -baptism 1820 NI
Could be a link between the Moody's and the Kirkpatrick's
Thank you
-
The following comes from Ballykelly C of I not Magilligan Pres Church.
Israel Moody acted as a witness at the marriage of William Kirkpatrick and Anne Smith. Both bride and groom were from Drumballydonaghy. Date of the marriage was 5th April 1819.
-
Thank you for taking the time to check this record for me and l also noticed that there was no word "Widow" so l don't know were this came from!! Israel Moody may have just been a friend to them both
Now l can see if l can find out more info on the Ballykelly C of I
Would anyone know where this place Drumballydonaghy is located ? Aghadowey may be able to help me this this
regards
-
Drumballydonaghy is a townland in the parish of Tamlaght-Finlagan- bounded on the east by the River Roe and north of Lisnakilly.
Type 'drumballydonaghy' into Google Maps and you'll find the location (http://maps.google.co.uk/maps?q=Drumballydonaghy&hl=en&client=firefox-a&hs=37R&rls=org.mozilla:en-GB:official&channel=s&biw=1024&bih=576&prmd=ivns&um=1&ie=UTF-8&sa=N&tab=wl).
-
Thank you that was very helpful
-
There may be additional information in the church records re this marriage. I recorded this a number of years ago.
-
Hi
Would anyone know if the Magilligan Presbyterian Church has a burial register and if so when would it have started ?
regards
-
It's been mentioned earlier in this thread that Presbyterian churches usually don't keep burial records and it's doubtful whether any for Magilligan do exist. Many Presbyterians are buried in Church of Ireland graveyards (however, sometimes they are not recorded in C. of I. burial register).
-
Hi,
As mentioned earlier in this thread Presbyterians, especially in the north of the parish, used to walk along the shoreline at low tide to attend services at the Presbyterian church in Articlave before Magilligan Presbyterian church was built.
Regards
-
When you said Presbyterian church in Articlave did you mean First Dunboe Presbyterian Church ?
http://www.presbyterianireland.org/congregations/dunboe1.html

Flicka,
Yes, 1st Dunboe Presbyterian Church is in Articlave. An interesting point about the walk along the shoreline before the current road was built is the cliffs at Downhill. These come right to the shoreline at this point and at high tide or during storms Magilligan would have been cut off from Articlave ( pronounced Articliff)

I don't think your moodies went to dunboe moody isn't a name you'd find around here.. before checking dunboe check ballykelly i was checking mines and found them there i also remember seeing loads of moodies in that register and they went very far too 1690s!
-
Thanks for that
But if l remember right the records have been checked and yes there are lots of MOODY'S over at the Ballykelly church and l also think it was someone from this sit that check the records for another person here

Hi Aghadowey
Have a question for you please,
l was going over some posts and you said that there's some gravediggers that use to keep books on the burials Do you know if there is one for Magilligan yet and would the church have a copy of this book?
Thank you
-
Afraid Magilligan is a bit outside my area and I don't know if any graveyard information is available. Sometimes this sort of information would be kept with church records, the sexton or convenor of graveyard committee but the minister or clerk of session might know.
-
Thank you for that
l have someone going to check the records for me so l will pass that on to them
cheer

Have just open a new topic that shows a map area of Magilliagn to help everyone out with families in this area
