I'm having trouble tracing a family of STEWARTs on the 1901 census:
On the 1891 census:
144 Kidston St (Hutchesontown) Govan
William STEWART Head 52 Iron Grinder born Glasgow
Isabella STEWART Wife 44 born Wick, Caithness
Helen STEWART Daughter 25 Machinist Hankerchief born Glasgow
William STEWART Son 23 Iron Turner born Glasgow
Barbara STEWART Daughter 19 Machinist Hankerchief born Uddingston
James STEWART Son 16 Tailors assistant born Glasgow
Isabella STEWART Daughter 13 Scholar born Glasgow
Elizabeth STEWART Daughter 12 Scholar born Glasgow
Robert STEWART Son 10 Scholar born Glasgow
Ann STEWART Daughter 8 Scholar born Glasgow
Events between 1891 and 1901:
Eldest child Helen marries July 1891 (from 144 Kidston St) - I have found her on the 1901 census
Isabella snr dies 1893 at 452 South Wellington St, Hutchesontown
Events subsequent to 1901 census:
William snr dies 1908 at 33 South Annandale St, Govanhill, informant is his son William, no other address given
William jnr marries 1908 (from 201 Calder St, Glasgow)
Barbara dies 1926 at 130 Govanhill Street, Govanhill, she is single, informant is her sister Elizabeth, no other address given
Isabella marries in 1902 (from 251 Calder Street, Glasgow)
Elizabeth dies 1958 usual address 130 Govanhill Street, Cathcart, she is single
Robert marries 1906 (from 33 South Annandale St, Gorbals)
So at the time of the 1901 census the following are 'certainly' alive, but I can't find them:
William snr, would be 62 years old, widower (according to his death record he did not remarry)
William jnr, would be 33 years old, single
Barbara, would be 29 years old, single
Isabella, would be 23 years old, single
Elizabeth, would be 22 years old, single
Robert, would be 20 years old, single
Ann, would be 18 years old, single(?)
Part of my problem is that STEWART is a very common surname in Glasgow at that time.
Also I'm not sure whether by 1901 they would all be living together, or maybe separately following Isabella's death.
I have tried many variations of names, addresses etc. Please can anyone help?

New information:
Ann(ie) STEWART emigrated to Canada in 1906, so should be in Scotland for the 1901 census and would be single.

Hi there
I am also trying to research my missing family called Stewart the following link helped me a little. (*)
Good luck!
E Stewart
Moderator Comment: (*) I have taken off the link to the family tree. A number of the people you have listed there are alive and current. As mentioned a number of times, RootsChat is all about tracing ancestors and details of people who are living should not be included in order to protect their privacy and identity.

Could this be your Robert Stewart in the 1901 Scottish Census?
Robert Stewart, age 21, single, b. Glasgow, foundry labourer, lodger, 243 Parliamentary Rd., St Rollox, Home for Men
Is it possible that some of your Stewarts lived for a time in England? The 1901 Census for England and Wales shows:
William Stewart, age 61, Head, b. Scotland, widower, shipwright, 18 Lowell St, Walton on the hill, Lancashire
Annie Stewart, age 17, b. Scotland, lodger, postal telegraphist, 10 Finlay St, West Darby, Lancashire
Isabella Stewart, age 24, b. Glasgow, housemaid, 4 Egerton Place, Kensington
Elizabeth Stewart, age 18, b. Glasgow, general servant, 45 Lancaster Rd, Carnforth, Lancashire (Her age is out a few years but could have been mistranscribed)
It's a long shot but these census records might be worth a look.
Cheers,

Had a look at the original - there is no mistranscription, it is quite clearly 18. But of course she might have lied about her age, or her employer might have got it wrong.

Thanks, Forfarian. Yes, I meant, as you say, that her age may have been incorrectly recorded.
You mention, JonathanC, that your Annie Stewart emigrated to Canada in 1906. Was her port of departure Liverpool? If so, this would lend some credence to the 1901 census record.
There is a subsequent passenger record for an Annie Stewart, age 23, single, departing Liverpool for Canada on 7 August 1906 on the Siberian to work as a domestic servant.
Cheers,
Rodeo

Many thanks for the replies, and for bringing an old thread back to life!
As per my earlier post (18 Dec 2010!) Robert married in 1906, Isabella married in 1902.
Annie STEWART travelled from Glasgow to Montreal, arriving 8 Nov 1906, passenger list states that she is 'to be married'.
I feel that the family were probably together in 1901 in Glasgow and were somehow missed, but I may be wrong.
