Hi,
Just wondering if anybody else has had this problem. We have seen the grave for my 4 x g'grandfather, Thomas Harrold.
When we tried to apply for his death certificate, online it states that there is nothing that exists, have tried contacting VIC BDM, but they are very slow at answering their emails.
So does anybody know how we can find out information? He is buried in Geelong Cemetery, we did find a Thomas Floyd who was buried there in the same year, we got that certificate just in case, but it's not him.
We are trying to find out when he came to Australia, but have been unable to find him on any immigration records. He has family buried with him. This family is proving very illusive.
Thanks
Nedda

Thanks so much for the replies.
Yes the illusive Thomas Harold we are chasing is the one buried in 1855, being born in Ireland - Armagh we believe.
We have not been able to find much on this family, they are very illusive. You would think a surname like Harold would be easy to get right - NOPE!
VIC BDM have finally come back and said to send in the form with as much information that we have and they will try and search for it. So here's hoping we find something.

Found a reference to a Walter Harold in Ireland c 1614 .. might be worth going further back to move forward.

My ex father-in-law, who stands proud of his long Irish ancestry , is in reality an ancestor of an English soldier (and wife) posted to Ireland in the middle of the 19th century. Perhaps your Thomas' relatives also came from England, hence their elusiveness.

Thanks for that mrwilson.
Because we know so little about the family, and irish records are not as accessible as other records we are finding it very difficult to find much on them. All the "paid" sites I am with, have very little information in relation to irish records.
Hopefully if we get this death cert of Thomas's it might shed a little light so that we can delve into the irish research a bit more.

If he died in 1855, you may be out of luck, because the civil registration in Australia didn't start until 1856.
