Hello,
I'd be glad if anyone could look up the Colliers in Glenelg in 1861; I've got a Margaret Brennan who married a Collier and had a daughter Katherine in 1861 and died by 1871, and I've not been able to local her in Holland Twp where her parents were, but the Directory of Grey County lists 3 sets of Colliers in Glenelg.
Thank you in advance for any help. :)
And I love the holiday icons *g*

Welcome to RootsChat Brennans :)
Any idea how old Margaret would be, or what her husband's name was?
Not sure if this is a likely match?

Thank you for the welcome, Tati!
And oh my goodness, I'm sure that's them!
Margaret Brennan Collier was born in Lacken, Co Carlow in (or before) Feb 1837 and baptised at St Lazarian's Catholic Church in Leighlinbridge on 19 Feb 1837, so the age is dead on.
I hadn't known there were 2 older children, but Mary Ann was also Margaret's mother's name. (And the family's all RC, yes.)
George Collier was listed in the Grey Directory living across the road and just a few concessions east of Margaret's father. I had wondered if George had been the right Collier, but I'd not been able to track down the census myself.
Does it say what ethnicity George is? One of the records lists the children's father as German, but the other doesn't. I'm hoping for a tie-breaker. Is Joseph listed as a George's brother?
And now I have a third spelling of the name, after Collier and Kohler. Now Coller.
I'm thrilled to receive the information. Thank you so very, very much!

Please tell me immediately if this is inappropriate to ask, but might I ask you to look up another family that may be on the same page?
If so, it's lead by Catherine Roach, and the children still at home would probably include Michael, Thomas, and Patrick. Catherine was born about 1810, Michael 1840, Thomas 1844, Patrick 1847. Daughter Margaret (1842) might be there as well.

Sorry, the census doesn't have an ethnicity column, or indications about relationships. There are merely columns to say whether people are members of the family or not, and he has a tick in both columns ::)
This looks like the Roach family:
Glenelg, Grey
Catharine Roack, 56, born Ireland, Roman Catholic
Michael, 19, born Ireland, Roman Catholic
Patrick, 15, born Ireland, Roman Catholic
Margeret, 17, born Ireland, Roman Catholic, residence Guelph,

Tati, thank you again!
That's them; I didn't know when Margaret had died but was fairly sure it was after 1861, and now I know.
Joyfully,
Chris
PS Is that Pippi Longstocking in your icon?
