Hi there,
From the WWI papers that Treadsoftly has located, George Gibson was 34 years 5 months of age when he enlisted 4 Sept 1916. He was a carpenter by trade (5 yr apprenticeship). So, his birth was possibly registered April-May-June of 1882.
Have you considered the following birth indexed at http://freebmd.rootsweb.com/ Vol 10b page 268 registered Castle Ward district of Northumberland in that second quarter of 1882. The following link seems to place Stannington with the Castle Ward http://www.ukbmd.org.uk/genuki/reg/districts/castle%20ward.html
I have had a quick search of the various Qld electoral rolls, but cannot isolate any that could be your chap, sorry. These rolls are organised in alphabetical order by surname, and not by street address, so I've not been able to help there either, perhaps other RChatters may be able to help further.
Re Immigration to Australia
There's an on-going project with volunteers involved in transcribing passenger and crew lists here in Australia. At the present time it's mainly concentrating on ships into NSW, and the website is updated very regularly, so it would be worthwhile checking it regularly. http://mariners.records.nsw.gov.au/
The following link is for passenger lists to Queensland, but the index is for 1848-1912, and you are asking for " abt 1913 ?" http://www.archives.qld.gov.au/research/index/immigration.asp
Hope this info is of some help, Jose,
Cheers, JM

Thanks for that both of you .This was from a UK friend - the passenger lists are hard as many have a George Gibson on them & no other details .
Thank You
