Hello Restorers
Would one you be kind enough to clean and tidy (colour if you'd like to) the attached photograph... My Great Uncle Charlie Jones (1912-1942), as you look at the picture, is 3rd row back, 6th from the left...
The teacher doesn't look like he'd stand for any messing around does he!!! >:(.... ;D
Does anyone recognise any of their ancestors from this?
Thanking you in advance

I sat my eleven plus at Embden Street school in 1946/47 - passed, of course!! I recollect that the playing area was actually on the roof!!

Hi
Not sure I understand your reply but thanks for replying.
Has your uncle any living relatives who attended Embden Street school? Am trying to trace descendants of my uncle William Briggs born 1908. Think he attended this school
Lovely photograph

I think Mancsman was referring to "his try" at restoring Leese's photo ;)
Leese, if your uncle was born in 1912 and this is a bunch of grade 7 boys (according to the sign) then I'm guessing that he'd be 12 in the pic, so that puts the photo at 1924 or so. :)

Hi Hannelore. Sadly I don't think I do have any more pictures of Embden Street School... though I haven't yet been through all of the pictures I have. If I do come across any others I'll let you know. Did your Uncle have any connection to Webster Street? as I have a couple of group pictures and have been unable to identify any of my ancestors!... :-\

Most of my ancestors came from that area. I was born in Ambrose Street and my mother was born in Union Street
I often heared Embden Street mentioned in conversation.
Perhaps there is someway you could let me have sight of the photos and who knows we may just be luckt.
Thanks

Another try for you 'boys'!

Hi
The name Webster Street is one which my parents have mentioned many many times. I know my mother, being catholic went to The Holy Name School but both my maternal and paternal relatives were brought up in the area and some stayed there after marriage.
I would love to have sight of your photos or anything else you may have in connection with the area. One never knows what may turn up.
I do not know if you come from Manchester but if you are researching your uncles family etc and need to know anything apertaining to Manchester I would be happy to help if I can.
I have telephoned Manchester Archives re Embden Street School but they tell me that the relevant registers were destroyed in WW2. Funny how everything seems to have been destrroyed. It makes you think.
