I am trying to find death of Sarah Lowe White, widow of James Chandos White died 16 June 1879 St.Bartholomews hospital, she was born Sarah Lowe Rugg abt.1817 at Chilton Poulden Somerset. On 1881 census she was living with son James White, but can`t find her on 1901 census, nor can i find a death registration that fits
-
On 1881 census she was living with son James White, but can`t find her on 1901 census
What about the 1891 census?
-
Can`t find her on the 1891 census,i found her son James and his family, shes not with them,i don`t know wether its down to a mis- transcription
-
So she may possibly have died between 1881-1891 instead of between 1891-1901
-
1881 states born Bridgwater ?
-
Have you already dismissed the 1891 entry for Sarah White b 1819 Chard living in Battersea and shown as mother in law
-
and the other one - born Somerset c1820, a Lodger in Hackney?
-
I know she states,or rather son or husband that she was born at Bridgewater, but she was baptised at Chilton Poulden, full names Sarah Lowe Rugg given.I hadn`t seen the lodger born 1820,does it give a town or just Somerset,or an L.FOR MIDDLE NAME
-
or an L.FOR MIDDLE NAME
Here's the reference - if you just search on the info given by Mort you will find the entry
RG12 Piece 189 Folio 53 Page 40
Did she use her middle name/initial on earlier censuses
-
As regards death,i can`t find one up to 1910,by when she would have been about 92,that has an age anywhere near right.I have been in touch with descendant of daughter who went to New Zealand, and was e-mailed a photo of Sarah, but no mention was made of her going there, they did say that youngest son Frederick was in merchant navy and visited once when his ship was in N.Z.
-
I can`t remember if the L. was used when with son,but was when husband was alive, another thing i have been unable to find out,is that on marriage certificate the two witnesses were surname Lowe, given her maiden name i`m sure they must have been related, although her mothers maiden name was Crossman and her fathers mother Hall,i suppose they could have been family friends
-
There are lots of deaths for the name Sarah White between 1881-1891.
Death registration info is very much dependant on who reported the death and what they knew about the deceased so you can't depend on finding an entry with her middle name of Lowe
-
I wasn`t looking for a middle name or initial nothing is there for anyone near the age she would have been most are children and of others, they are twenty to thirty years too young

Where are you looking? By 1881 she would have been approx 63
I only looked at deaths in Middlesex between 1881-1891 and can see 4 possible entries between 1882-1885. Haven't looked at London
1882 - aged 63
1883 aged 65
1884 aged 65
1885 aged 68

I was looking at free bmd,i was looking for deaths reg.at Islington and also for initial L.as she was living with son James in 1881,i assume he would be aware of her death,if not informant and he would at least know his mothers middle initial
-
Unfortunately - she may have left her son's household and moved somewhere else prior to her death.
If you have not found anything within the Islington RD - you may have to consider that possibility
