Archibald Cowie just dropped out of the sky in Cairnhill in 1790. Well it would seem to be that way, i have come to a brick wall. I just can't seem to go any further back. I have expanded the family out in all other directions. I just cant seem to find out anything about his parents. He married Agnes Aitken in about 1813. If there is anyone out there who might know anything about them any information would be very much appreciated.
Thanks
Sandy.

Did he die before or after 1855?
-
Looks likely - he's in the 1841 census with his wife and children but in 1851 Agnes is described as a pauper - living with her children.
Agnes' parents were James Aitken and Mary Gardner - she died on Jun 22nd 1867 - she died of old age and her son Richard was the informant on her death certificate.

Bang goes the "parents on the death cert" idea then!!

That seems to be the problem i'm having too

Have you tried looking at the poor records to see if there is more information there?
Have you viewed the marriage record on the OPR's to see if a parent is mentioned?

If they followed the naming tradition their 1st son would suggest that Archibald's father was called Richard
