Hi I`m trying to get information of Samuel Stephens he was a Land Surveyor in Nelson in 1841 one of the early settlers he sailed from England in 1841 and his wife Sarah followed him in 1842 there is quite a bit of info on the web but can`t find if they had any children which may prove he is the ancester i`m looking for.

One clue may come from searching the NZSG First families
http://www.genealogy.org.nz/FF_Search_31.aspx
enter STEPHENS
the second Sarah entry click on details, there is a Samuel as well and some names...that may be children

Hi Ian,
Have you seen the excellent article about him here
http://www.theprow.org.nz/samuel-stephens/
There is no mention of children, but strangely, the article was written by Joy Stephens. ::)

He settled in Riwaka, and there is still a road there named after his house, Dehra Doon.
I suggest you contact Motueka Museum as they are certain to have more details
