Hi there,
Would any one know anything about where a Luke Doolin and his wife Jane Cullen were originally from, both born mid 1850.
And also about their son Patrick born 1887, he is on the 1901 census but not the 1911. Heard he may have gone to fight in WW1 in Flanders, but I can't find anything,
Thanks to you all
Walley

see previous thread for the census return mentioned for Luke : Doolin (http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php/topic,499757.msg3565657.html#msg3565657)
Place of birth for them both on the 1911 census is given as 'Dublin City', so probably the best place to search for their baptisms is on www.irishgenealogy.ie
Do you have the marriage cert details for Luke & Jane ?
If not then that might be the next logical step to research, as a cert will show fathers names and other details. From the 1911 census it appears that they are married about 31 year, so about 1870.
For details on searching the BMD Index see :

as i said 19 pages of mixed records very detailed several pages in poor condition would be worth getting and messin around with in a photo program im sure a lot of the writing would come up , messin around with the colour-contrast buttons.
the pages are seemingly from at least two mixed records , some of the writeing is poor but could be worked out if you took your time and zoomed in .
theres a family tree with patrick doolin and anne walsh with 6 kids whos i.d has been kept private , i left a message to look at this post and hopefully they will contact you here .
they didnt know patricks parents names so im sure ye can swap info .

Hi there,
I don't really know anything about Luke Doolin, but someone left me a message on my Ancestry .co .uk site about Patrick Doolin, this if its the same one, was my Aunties Dad.
I do know he was born in Dublin and married Annie Walsh , my Aunts mother, as far as I know he was in the Royal Dublin Fusiliers and they had 6 children Julia, Bridget, Kathleen, Jimmy, Mary Margaret ( my Auntie Pat who's 86/87 yrs) and Richard. I think she told me he had a brother Charles and a sister Bridget that she knows of.
I will phone her or my cousin, to try and check some of the information thats been posted in reply to you.
Don't know if this is of any help, but will try to find out more for you, you could have a look at my tree on Ancestry, if you like.
All the best eita

Patrick has a service record on findmypast,,,he joined the army medical corps in 1901,,,served for a couple of years ;)
-
goin over the record again i think the ww1 record is not for walley,s tree .
a different patrick doolin .
as gortonboy found a patrick doolin who joined the army medical corps in 1901 , the previous patrick was in south africa figten the boers .
as
patrick doolin wed anne walsh wed 13-4-13 dublin ,
Dublin North marriage Apr - Jun 1913 Volume Number 2 Page Number 549
same details for both
this marriage would hopefully give fathers name as mothers name is clearly
julia on record ,
not jane as in walley,s case .
might be worth lookin for a jane doolin with children charles bridget (from eita,s post) margaret (from record) on 1901 census , as patrick was serving he wont be on it .
i apologise to all for the mix up of the two patrick doolins !

I have a Wm Doolan ENGLISH among my ancestors. I was wondering where the name 'Doolan' might have come from. He was christened 17/10/1821 at St Georges, Dublin to Wm John and Anna Eliza ENGLISH. My grandmother had told me her Grandmothers maiden name was Dillon, but I am wondering if it might have been Doolan....any thoughts are welcome.
Thanks

Hi Julie,
New to this myself, and as you can see my aunts family name is Doolin, my guess, would be Irish but if one of the other readers see your post, they will most likely be able to give you a proper answer.
If you recieve no more answers to this one, put a new post up saying 'help with roots of name Doolan please' and I'm sure someone will give you better help than me.
good Luck Eileen

Hi there,
In relation to Luke Doolin and Jane Cullen, I believe I am Luke Doolin and Jane Cullen's great grand daughter, as Paul Doolin their son went on to marry a kate Brennan from Toorlisnamore, Ballynagore, near Kilbeggan in County Westmeath, they in turn produced my mother Carmel Doolin.

Will three message replies do this?

Hi radionics,
I've sent a reply as I think you need it to access Walley's Message, but I have links to a different set of Doolins to you and Walley, I believe, but good luck as you seem to have found family in Walley,
Take care Eileen
