There is a death registered in Prescot in Qtr Oct, nov, dec 1972 for a William Austin Innes, birth is listed as what you have already. may form a lead  :)

Oops sorry you already have death  :-[

Maybe you could try to find his children  and where they were born, it may lead you to him.

Hi Cal

You should check on Ancestry to see if there is a WW1 service record for him. Three men called William A Innes received WW1 medals, plus 92 registered as William Innes, so you need to keep your fingers crossed that a service record survives.

Do you have his death certificate? If not it should give his former occupation. Which may help.

Following on from Janinez's suggestion there are four possible births on FreeBMD. The last being Albert born Dec (qtr) 1931. Again the certificate may help.

Awww thankyou for your help!! :) I've got the following info too :)
Occupation : French Polisher
Father :Thomas W Innes (1855-)
Mother: Rebecca Madaline Mather(1858-)
Siblings:
Albert Innes (1886-)
Ethel Innes (1890-)
Jessie Madeline Innes (Gregory)(1898-1976)
I've spoken to my Aunties... they described him as a 'funniosity' who never spoke about any of his family, his other sibling seem to have been brought up be an uncle but my grandfather didn't appear to go with them, apparently one sister tried to visit him before he died and he shooed her away!! :(
I'm at my whits end as can't get past this generation without more info!! :(

He's not showing in the 1911 census index.

He would have been 17 then. Might he have joined the services, or gone to sea?

Plus... any idea how I can be sure that the military records I have found is the right one as I've we've found 3 of the right name and age????
Thank you all for your support!!
Many Thanks!!

The index is free to search and there are lots of suggestions on this thread:

In 1901, there is a Francis Innes at 39 Red Rock St, West Derby (RG13/3498 ED 6 Fol 111 P 4).

Francis Innes, Head, M, 36, Plaster, own account, Edinburgh
Elizth Innes, Wife, M, 35, Liverpool Lancs
Eliz Frances Innes, Daur, 11, Liverpool Lancs
Mildres Innes, Daur, 8, Liverpool Lancs

In the light of the place of birth, William might be north of the border with other relatives. If so we will have to wait for the census release on Scotland's People.
