Title: Using a FTM 2010 file in FTM2006
Post by: croptop on Sunday 05 December 10 19:19 GMT (UK)
I have just wiped my PC and had Windows 7 installed. :D

Of course I have a copy of all my data files.

On my old system (Win-Vista) I had FTM2006 installed.
Last year I also installed FTM2010
I continued to refer sometimes to FTM2006, as in FTM2010 I sometimes could not find what I wanted. >:( >:(

I wanted to set the same thing up on my Windows 7 setup, but when I copied my data files, I forgot to note which file was being used by which version of FTM.  :-[

So my Question is:
Can a file saved by Family Tree Maker 2010, be fully read by FTM2006?  ???

Any advice on my question, from a guru, would be welcome.

Thanks in advance

Martin

I may be wrong but I think the answer is no.  Maybe  the "Using family treemaker" forum will have the answer. You'll find it here: http://genforum.genealogy.com/using/

I know to my own cost that FTM 2006 does not work on Windows 7  :(

I have looked at the more recent FTM's but do not like the look of them, they are so much like the online Ancestry trees.

Parently I am told that if you have Windows 7 "Professional" or better, you can download an "Windows XP Mode", after installing this, you open this XP Mode and can install programs that were designed to run under Windows XP, such as FTM 2006.

it kinda provides an Windows XP environment.
