I am trying desperatly to find emigration information on Thomas Craig. The only information I have is his wife's name (Christian Grant Hynes), and thier son's information, which is Noble John Craig, Born 17 July, 1906, Pincher Creek, Alberta, Canada. Died 04 March, 1983. Any suggestions or leads would be appriciated.

andrewcraig74,
There's a Thomas CRAIG living in Pincher Creek in the 1901 census.
(Alberta is listed as part of "The Territories")
http://www.automatedgenealogy.com/census/index.html
District: TT ALBERTA (#202)
Subdistrict: Pincher Creek m(3) Page 12
Schedule 1 Microfilm T-6551
Line 17; Family 133
CRAIG, Thomas, Head, Single, born 25 December 1865 in Ireland, 35, came to Canada in 1874, Methodist, Rancher
It looks like the good folks at Automated Genealogy haven't transcribed his family yet in the 1906 census.
You could look for him in this transcription (but if you don't find him, it doesn't mean he wasn't there):

Alberta Family Histories Society
Government of Canada website with the 1906 Census images (but no transcription):

andrewcraig74,
I see that Pincher Creek is not listed by name in the Government of Canada site for the 1906 census.
This webpage explains how the districts were broken up for the 1906 census in Alberta:
http://www.afhs.ab.ca/data/census/1906/alberta/18/
For Pincher Creek post office: District 18; Sub-district numbers: 6, 7, 8, 9, 18, 19, 20, 21 & 22
It has links to the images.
Or, you can search on the district and sub-district at:
http://www.collectionscanada.ca/02/02015302_e.html
For example, District 18, Sub-district 6 has 10 pages you can view. (I opt to view it without the Mr. Sid plug-in and it works just fine.)
Perhaps you will find your CRAIG family that way.
Regards,
Josephine

andrewcraig74,
This shows a Thomas Craig in the 1891 census of Alberta:
http://www.afhs.ab.ca/data/census/1891/1891cr.html
1891 Census - Districts #197 and #199 in Southern Alberta: Cr
He's 26 years old, born in Ireland, and a rancher, but listed as Roman Catholic.
The LDS site www.familysearch.org shows a Thos. H. Craig, 16 years old, born in Ireland, living in Winnipeg, Selkirk, Manitoba in the home of George and Maggie Firestino.
If this is the right person, then it looks like he lived in Manitoba before he settled in Alberta.
Regards,
Josephine

This is an old one, so we'll wait for a reply...

John Craig born July 1906
James Craig born May 1909
1916 must be down for additions?
http://www.smflibrary.ca/brandc.html Stockman's index has Thomas G. Graig in Medicine hat...
hmmm, but then there's this one... http://www.smflibrary.ca/communityc.html Craig, Thomas from Pincher Creek and District

Looking at the whole thread ...might we have a British home child here, altho haven't found him on any lists as yet...
But I see no sign of Craigs from Ireland in Manitoba who might be parents...He's have been around 9 or 10 when he immigrated...Odd that a 16 year old is a clerk for a farmer in Manitoba...but his smarts obviously made him a good rancher...J.J.

This is an old thread, and seems the poster isn't interested in the family anymore, but have since found lots of information on Thomas & Christina Craig, so if anyone else is ever interested have their obits on file and have names four sons, and some grandchildren, etc.
Thomas ( & family, I guess?) settled in Meaford Ontario circa 1874, he then later moved west, joined the N.W.M.P. in 1882.. and said he took part in the Riel Rebellion...all exaggerated in his obit, along with other feats he took part in during his six year stint in the force from the age of 17. However they did take a moment from all that and gave siblings, a brother Dave & sister Mrs. james Mitchell in Toronto
There are no Craigs left in Meaford/1881
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
these may just be coincidence
There's the marriage of an Isabella McKay Craig (father David Craig? ) to William James Mitchell...
Found a David with a Noble Craig in Toronto 1901, but there are others...so the name isn't as unusual as I had thought...
-
looking at the obit...says he was 91 in 1944...which would make him born in 1853 Ireland not 1865?? also seems to imply he came west in 1882 with the military, so...
The obit says he was 91 in 1944...which would make him born in 1853 Ireland not 1865??
so in Grey East that same family still looks promising with a Thomas in household...
William Craig age 55 & Mary Ann Craig age 45 with children all born Ireland...
Thomas age 24 Farmer
Mary
Joseph
William
Noble
Sarah
Margaret
It was an interesting mystery, and still is... Not sure if Thomas or his family heightened his age
Guess I'll call l this complete...until someone claims it...J.J.
adding this to the page, as someone found this submission on the IGI for the same query in Scotland
http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php/topic,50010.0.html
Thomas CRAIG, born Dec 25th, 1852 - Ballymote, Sligo, Ireland
Death Jan 15th 1944
Marriage: Christian Grant HYNES, 1902 Pincher Creek, Alberta, Alberta
But he'sp utting 1857-1858-1865 on the censuses...?
-
A Noble John Craig died in Toronto Feb 21, 1922...He had the same name as whom appears to be your ancestor...
Parents were William Craig & Mary Hart...so that would be the William Craig &Mary Anne found earlier in 1881...
William was the name of Thomas's first born child...
Might just be a coincidence, but William & Mary Anne's son "William Henry Craig" is a constable...Your Noble John's father and a brother were constables...
http://homepages.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~maryc/tor97.htm
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
But then looking at the 1891 their Thomas is still in the household so this eliminates them as direct family, but perhaps cousins
http://www.collectionscanada.gc.ca/databases/census-1891/001081-119.02-e.php?person_id_nbr=2773090
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
But then this marriage? seems to point back to that same family?? but then I can't see the ages or dates
Margaret Ann Craig & James Crawford Mitchell
parents William & Mary Ann Craig
daughter to this couple Name: I. Pearle Mitchell married Alan Gavin Clark
parents Margaret Craig Mitchell & J C Mitchell
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I finally found that couple in 1911 under Mitchel, but only because of the Irene Pearl marriage...
Toronto North / 14 ward 4
http://www.automatedgenealogy.com/census11/SplitView.jsp?id=81933
Now this definitely points to the Margaret Ann in that same family....but if anyone claims this thread...I'm
imagine we can sort something out...this seems to be all coincidence?
