Hi everyone,
I wanted to ask if anyone out there can help me find the right family?
My Husbands grandfather was Called William Henry Taylor he was born on 21/02/1901 in the sound of the bow bells london. His father was called Thomas James Taylor a Labourer can anyone help me track this family down please, I tried to obtain his birth certificate but the GRO sent me a refund as the name was to common to search even though I had his date of birth. I would derly love to track them down as My husbands side of the tree is looking really sad and empty. any help would be much appreciated.
thank you
-
Do you know his birth address? He is probably one of these two as within the sound of Bow Bells was usually north of the Thames.
Mar qtr 1901
Taylor William Poplar 1c 589
Taylor William Holborn 1b 675
But it could be this one, south of the river.
Taylor William Henry St. Olave 1d 294
Have you looked for him on the 1901 census?
-
Also, do you know if he had any brothers or sisters? That could help in tracking the family on censuses.

there is a william taylor aged 1mnth on the 1901 living in leyton in west ham dist fathers name thomas taylor occ; pavior road labourer
there is also another child thomas aged 2 there . the mothers name is emily
if you think this might be him i will post the full entry
-
If that is the right family, a likely looking marriage could be Thomas Taylor and Emily Dec qtr 1897, Billericay 4a 773. Only problem is that both females on the page are called Emily! So you have a choice of surname Cox or Trout!
-
And in 1911, the family are still in the West Ham dist, but I think with an additional child - Emily bn 1906
-
There is a William Harry Taylor bn mar qtr 1901 W Ham 4a 151
-
here are the entries as asked for by p.m.
1901
RG13/1614/116/14
thomas taylor age 30. b. leytonstone. occ. pavior road labourer. head
emily age 23. b. billericay. wife
thomas age 2. b. leytonstone. son
william age 1mnth. b. ditto. son
mary.a.harris age 66. b. cambridge. mother?(wid)
living at;6a,cathall road,leyton,essex
reg.dist; west ham
living at 5a,cathall road is a possible brother or some other rele of thomas taylor
henry taylor age 28. b. leytonstone. occ. general labourer. head
elizabeth age 26. b. stratford,essex. wife
henry age 3. b. leytonstone. son
thomas age 1. b. ditto. son
-
think this might be the christening of the father thomas aged 31 in 1901 census
thomas taylor son of thomas/henrietta taylor bapt on the 8th dec 1870 at leytonstone, essex born on the 20th nov 1870
and this could be the henry taylor living next door in 1901
henry james taylor son of thomas/henrietta taylor bapt on the 20th march 1873 at leytonstone, essex born on the 26th feb 1873
-
i think this is thomas aged 30 in 1901 in 1881
badly mistranscribed
1881
RG11/1727/110/27
thomas taylor age 31. b. suffolk. occ. pavior. head
minerald(think this should be henrietta). age 30. b. suffolk. wife
thomas age 10. b. leytonstone. son
henry age 9. b. ditto. son
ada age 6. b. surrey. daughter
arthur age 3. b. stratford,essex. son
plato age 4mnths. b. leytonstone. son
living at;percy street,leyton,essex
reg.dist;west ham
someone has amended minarald on ancestry and put down henrietta taylor nee giles
so we need to look for a henrietta giles/thomas taylor marriage about 1868-1870
-
here is the marriage
henrietta giles/thomas taylor
y.o.r. 1870
qtr; jul/aug/sept
dist; west ham
vol; 4a
page; 44
so it would appear that henrietta was already carrying the young thomas when she wed
seeing as he was born on the 20th nov 1870
-
this is a possible death of both thomas and henrietta both lived to a very good age
henrietta taylor
y.o.r. 1940
qtr; jul/aug/sept
dist; essex south western
vol; 4a
page; 387
age at death; 90
est birth year; 1850
thomas taylor
y.o.r. 1943
qtr; jan/feb/mar
dist; essex south western
vol; 4a
page; 243
age at death; 92
est birth year; 1851
-
here is the family in 1891 the 2 eldest sons thomas and henry not there though
1891
RG12/1348/66/38
thomas taylor age 40. b. stecther, cambridgeshire. occ. pavior. head
henrietta age 40. b. greenwich. wife
ada age 16. b. mosley,surrey. daughter
arthur age 14. b. stratford,essex. son
plato age 12. b. leytonstone. son
elias age 9. b. ditto. son
henrietta age 7. b. ditto. daughter
elizabeth age 6mnths. b. ditto. daughter
living at;percy street,leyton,essex
-
so if we are following the right family(fingers crossed)
at the moment we have
william (1901)
1
thomas-emily
1
thomas-henrietta
should be able to get back further with henrietta if as stated on 1891 census she was born in greenwich
also good chance we can get back further with her husband thomas as well if he was indeed born in cambridgeshire
might have to wait until to-morrow evening though
off to watch the cricket shortly
mick
-
just a quickie here is possibly henrietta's birth index
name; henrietta giles
y.o.r. 1850
qtr; jul/aug/sept
dist; greenwich
vol; 5
page; 247
-
1851
HO107/1468/590/7
sarah taylor age 66. b. berkshire. occ. basket maker. head (cannot make out if she is married or widowed)
plato age 31. b. walford,berkshire
elizabeth age 24. b. langford. daughter
henry age 20. b. walford,berkshire. son
reuben age 18. b. epsom. son
sarah age 12. b. epsom. daughter
lydia age 2. b. langford. daughter
thomas age 1. b. stechey,cambs. son
living at;kensington town,kensington,middlesex
i would imagine the younger children are grandchildren of sarah not children
it also does not state the status of any of the elder children(whether married or widowed or single)

Hi ellejay,
I'm afraid I can't post the full details of the 1911 census - that goes against copyright regulations. All I can post is what you could see from a free search. If you went to www.1911census.co.uk and searched for Emily taylor bn 1906, resident in West Ham district, you should be able to see the family and then buy the image.
Have a look here http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php/topic,492718.from0.html#new for getting the most out of the free searches of the 1911 census
