Hi jock and welcome to Rootschat.
What do you know about Eric? Is he still alive (Rootschat can't help with tracing living people)? If he's dead some dates and places would be really helpful.

If he was born, lived and died in Scotland you probably need to look on Scotlands People website for certificates.

Hi Jock
Your best bet is get one of your relatives or friends in Scotland to visit the Register office in Greenock as they will hold his original birth records. The index do not always show every birth and its was war time in WW1
Good luck!

Hi Jock
if you go to Scotlands People site there is a birth on there for
Eric Wilson Mitchell born in Greenock 1916 (its a pay per view site)
sorry I have no credits to view it
I am having a look through some of the Inverclyde BMD's at the minute
to see if I can see any births in the local paper around that time to see if
I can narrow down parents names
do you have any other info that may help

I think this could be possile parents for Eric
Matthew Mitchell and Janet Wilson
it looks like Janet may have been married to someone called Wilson
before she married Matthew as the newspaper reads
Matthew Mitchell, plumber, to Janet Wilson, youngest daughter of John Chalmer, potato
merchant, 29 Newton Street, at Tontine, Greenock on 14th June 1906. (Greenock Telegraph
15.6.1906)

Thanks for the link dobfarm - just too bad we hadn't known there was another thread sooner to prevent needless duplication. Will lock this one now.
