Returning to Chatham in Kent on the 25/6/1919 with out young Edward, why he was not with her we don't know. she had James (7) George (5) Tommie (4) and Dora (11 months). My Dad Cyril Hadley was born in November 1919. just a few months after she got back to Chatham. She died in 1929 in Chatham. I am looking for her Mother and father, Grandfather and grandmother. Can anyone help me with this please. Thank you if you can help me. Laurie.

Hi Karenlee,
Thank you, I'll go to Free BMD and get a copy of her birth certificate. I have her marrage certificate but all I got from that was her fathers name, Arthur Rush. And trying to find him is not easy.. Thank you Karenlee for your help and all the best for Christmas. Laurie.

At her wedding, Dora is known as Mary D B Rush.
But I can't find either her or Edward on the 1911 census!
I had assumed that they were in the Gillingham/Rochester area, as they got married there in November 1911.
No trace in 1901, either?!
Do you have any information on Edward? Date and place of birth perhaps?
-
Hi,
Dora was Mary D B Rush she used her second name as her first name. Edward was born in Dudley in 1884, his father's name was Edward Hadley to. Edward served with the South Borderers (24 foot) in England from 1902 until 1912, then he went to Canada and then served with Canadian Army in the CAF from 1914 through to the end of WW1 1918. We are also trying to trace what he did from then on.

Hi,
On the passenger list of 1912 Dora M Hadley's age is 32, Edward's 8 and James 6. Seems Dora born circa 1880.
I can t find Dora in censuses either or a death n 1929.
Cathy
added it definately says 32 on the image but maybe she gave wrong age, the 1891 record for Dora M B Rush sounds good.
Did the marriage certificate give any helpful addresses?

I found Edward on the 1911 census.
Can't say too much (due to copyright) except that he is married?!
1911 census took place on 2nd April 1911

Hi Cathy,
We found Dora there to. That is when she went back to Chatham. My dad Cyril Hadley was born in Chatham November 1919. Dad was 9 when she died so that would be 1928. She had two children with her when she went over to Canada and four when she came back to England. Her eldest Edward did not come back with her. What happened to him we don't know. He could have died in Canada. Dora 11 months old was my auntie Dora. Thank you for helping me Cathy. All the best Laurie.
PS; Was that an English cenus or a Canadian cenus for 1911 Cathy? I think they were still in England then. Laurie

No Cathy, there was no addresses at all on the Marrage certificate. Laurie
-
Laurie,
Do you have access to the England 1911 census?
Maybe I am getting too suspicious here, but I think Dora/Mary's marriage to Edward may have been bigamous?
June quarter 1903, Dudley, there is an Edward Hadley getting married to either Sarah Newey or Agnes Maud Brettell.
1911 census (RG14PN17444 RG78PN1067 RD372 SD4 ED21 SN267) shows a Sarah Hadley living in Dudley with her widowed mother Sarah Newey.
She has a child, Sarah Hadley Newey.
Lance Corporal Edward Hadley was stationed with the SW Borderers in Medway, Kent in 1911.
Then we find the marriage of Edward Hadley to Dora/Mary Rush in November 1911.
Need concrete evidence though - and that means certificates, or a court appearance!

Hi Cathy,
We were thinking the same thing for awhile. The Edward who married Dora is my grandfather and Dora is my grandmother that much we are sure about. He did serve in the South Wales Borderers and in the CAF in Canada. We have photos of him and the medals he's wearing in the photos show that. There are so many Edward Hadley's that seem to come from the place and time, could be rellies, who knows. But as soon as I can get enough money I'll get more certificates. I have Parkinson's Disease and I'm on a disable pension so it takes time to get them. I was born in London UK myself 30/08/1942. I now live in Australia, came here with my Mum and Dad in 1950. Thank you so much for helping me. your great Cathy. Cheers, Laurie.

There is an address of 68 Maida Road for both Edward and Dora (she signs as Dora Mary Barrett RUSH) on the marriage certificate http://www.rootschat.com/links/index.php where Dora gives her age as 20, daughter of Arthur RUSH, commercial traveller, deceased. Witnesses were George and Christina WHITE who may, or may not, be connected in some way.
