Looking for detail re the following gentleman found on the Otago Nominal Index
1887 IRELAND, Thomas Trotter, Kensington, Electoral District of City of Dunedin South Supplementary
1890 IRELAND, Thomas Trotter, Kensington, Electoral District of Peninsula
He may also appear as simply Thomas Ireland on earlier Dunedin Electoral Rolls and is not the Thomas Ireland living on Union or Castle Sts., Dunedin
Thanks,
Sue

Wow, Althea,
Getting close now, Sue... ;D ;D
Bookkeeper = Accountant, I think..

Althea, I'd found that too! Timing is perfect for his move to Wellington (other thread). ITM on 28 March 1895 said residence 20 days. 17 years with that firm also ties in with disappearance from UK census. Even better TROTTER is my man's grandmother's surname. This could be the tie I was hoping for to the T T Ireland on the ship with the 2 women ;D
spades, great work in organizing the Resources board. That's how I found the Otago Nominal Index. Clicked on a whim.

Strangest thing though that he is on these rolls, you would think he would be on 1893, only the packer
Source 1893 Electoral Roll, Electorate Dunedin
Surname IRELAND Given Names Thomas
Place of Residence Dunedin
Occupation Packer Nature of Qualification Freehold
Comments Part section 51, block 29, Dunedin
This THOMAS is still there in 1896

I've had confirmation back from my Scots 'Ireland' researchers that all of the known Thomas Irelands, descendants of Jean Trotter Ireland, in the right time frame can be accounted for except my Thomas.
Althea, in 1893 it could have been that transit issue. That's the year he travelled to UK. I've been able to get free short term access to worldvital records and also findmypast au to check out various Wise's and 1881 Elect Roll. Found Thomas Ireland, FARMER, in FernFlats, Marton in 1898, Clara Ireland is in Fern Flats in 1896 Suppl as you call. Can't explain lack of my Thomas there. Thomas not on 1881 Elect Roll either - likely a timing issue if he came late 1878. IS on 1897, 1890 Dunedin and 1900 in Wanganui.
Coupled with the Papers Past articles, passenger list info, ITM, Marr Cert, I'm happy to claim Thomas Trotter Ireland as my man. In NZ at least by 1878. I've learned lots and met nice, helpful people along the way ;D. Thanks to all!

Sue

It should feel good to know that all your organizational work is paying off! I looked at that posting because I didn't know what a 'nominal index' was and as these things go, I found the missing link that draws the pieces together ;D

I was just scrolling through the favourites list on my computer and saw the ONI and the Caversham Project and thought I'd add them.
Very pleased to see the success you've had here. Rootschat rocks! ;D
