Can anyone make out the name of this ship.My guess is SS Bancoosh but I can't find any reference to a ship of that name.By the SS I suppose it's a steamsip and here(1882) was being used as a troop carrier.

have you tried ss bancoora as the ships name. i think it ran aground sometime in the late 1800, s but i am not sure.

re ss bancoora im sure there is an island named after the vessel which ran aground but my geography is not very good.

Thank you for your input you lovely people.It is now 4.50 am,I have had a long night of the party variety,I shall check your suggestions on the morrow.
ps.if it's any help I think this ship was loading up in Aden and heading back to Blighty.

Top marks Cawood and Jen,I think you hit the nail on the head.The Bancoora seems to have done many trips to India and the Middle East where this particular soldier was serving.Jen,loved the info on it running aground with an elephant,rhinoceros,monkeys and parrots on board.For animal lovers all survived apart from the rhino who found it all too much and died two days later.
