Jamison
-
Jamison,
I’ll just run this past you - the only Owen(s) that fits your time frame in Victoria appears to be a:
John Thomas Owen born in 1859, in South Yarra, Reg#18465, his parents were John Owen and Mary Trustam.
Where did your John Owen(s) die and could you please advise where you got his birth in Moonee Ponds from?
John Owen Sr. married Mary Tristam in 1858, Reg#4381
Cheers,
Janet.
-
Janet
I got John Owen`s place of Birth (Moonee ponds) from his Marriage
certificate (parenst not listed) but l do not think he was born there because...
I found a John Owens with the parents James Owens and Mary Mc ......but
this family arrived in Australia around 1856 from Fermanaugh Ireland and
ended up in the Narrandera and Griffith area of NSW
Jamison
-
Jamison,
Children of John Owen and Mary Trustam:
John Thomas Owen born in 1859, in South Yarra, Reg#18465 (Trustam)
William Owen born 1862 in Moonee Ponds, Reg#8111 (Trustam)
Elizabeth Owen born 1865, Laur !!!! (Not sure what this abbreviation is short for), Reg#16249 (Trustam)
- Could this Elizabeth be the same as the Lizzie that married Andrew Day in the District of Hay, NSW in 1906 Reg#7282 ??
Cheers,
Janet.

Janet
Lizzie who married Andrew Day was born in the 1880`s.

Hi guys, I'm just starting my family history research, would appreciate any help please.
My Ancestor Mr. John Hatcher was born around 1815 to 1820 in the Hampshire region of England.
John left England on the ship named Neptune II either as crew member or a stow away bound for Sydney Australia. He arrived 2/1/1838 in Sydney.
Later in 1840 he turned up in Melbourne Australia and was married October 1840 to Janet Fullerton Davidson, daughter of John Davidson & Sarah Wallace of Scotland. John & Sarah Davidson & their kids arrived on the ship Glenhuntly.
We would like to make contact with any descendents of John Hatcher or Janet Davidson's family members in the UK or Australia.
Regards,
Stephen

It is too good to be true !!!
Thanks for looking !!!

Promising. ;D

You are a doll Suffolk Sue
Your info. just connected me to another strand of the same family and other info. on the net.
Thanks for taking me back 4 more generations in my tree.
Regards
Jamison
-
Hi Jamison & Sue,
Jamison, so your line is Phoebe Caroline Day (nee Hatcher) & James Day of Narrandera NSW? Which one of the 13 Day children is your branch?
We’ve been told John & Janet Hatcher died in Urana NSW, the family could not afford to place a headstone on John’s grave and that may be why no one can locate his gravesite.
I think John may have died 6/5/1879 while Janet Hatcher died sometime after 1883 as told by a relation, who also told me John, arrived on the Neptune II. I did some research myself at the library and found out the ship sailed from Ireland with a load of convicts, it arrived in Sydney 2/1/1838. John would have been about 20 years of age, his name was not amongst the people listed on the ships convict list so only other options could be he was either a stow away or a crew member of that ship.
My family line is via their son John Hatcher & Mary Ann J. Luckie & then via Edward William Hatcher & Ivy Marion Hall.
I am building a photographic family tree, I wonder if you may be able to share any old family photos with me please? When my tree project is finished I would be happy to send you a copy if you would like one.
Thank you very very much Suffolk Sue for the information on John Hatcher’s siblings, I have been having a lot of difficulty finding these people and what you have listed above is pure GOLD, Well Done! I would love to find out more about when & where William Hatcher & Phebe Grace died, who the children married etc, if you have access to that info please?
Kind regards
Stephen

This looks like the FERREY family in 1861 - mistranscribed on the index I have as Terrey. - enumerator's handwriting is not always easy to read!

Charles Ferrey 11,, b Southampton
Caroline Ferrey 9, b Southampton
Mary J Ferrey 5, b Southampton
John Ferrey 3, b Southampton
Alice Ferrey 1, b Southampton

Mary J Ferry 16
John Ferry 14
Alice Ferry 12
Henry Ferry 10

Caroline FERRY 67, b Lymington

Alice Pickering 8, granddaughter, b Southampton
FreeBMD shows these deaths, although the age is not right for William (ages given on census are a bit flaky though) and a couple of years out for Caroline ???

Hi there,
At the NSW BDM online index there’s a marriage for Phoebe Hatcher to Albert Holmes in 1892, registered at Bourke (#2595). So from one of the 13 volumes of the History of Bourke prepared by the Bourke Historical Society there’s the following:
...." HOLMES Albert (Snr)
Married at North Bourke when he was a teamster. She had held a ribbon at the Railway opening. "Marion Downs" from 1915; "Kerribree" from 1919. "Pirillie" from 1927. Wife Phoebe (Hatcher), born Riverina, died "Durham" aged 67. ..."
Most likely this would be Phoebe’s indexed d.c. details
Phoebe HOLMES, parents given names recorded as John and Mary Ann, registered 1940 at Bourke #12352
And this would most likely be her birth indexed
Phoebe HATCHER, parents given names John and Mary Ann, registered at Wagga 1873 #19796
There’s also quite a number of other mentions of HATCHER and of HOLMES with many names of people who may still be living.
Cheers, JM

Hey guys,
Judith (judb) great work on finding the Ferrey/Terrey family, a very promising lead with lots more kid’s names, this is very helpful thanks, :D
JM (majm) many thanks for the info on Phoebe Hatcher & Albert Holmes, I’d be very interested in hearing more on ‘There’s also quite a number of other mentions of HATCHER and of HOLMES with many names of people who may still be living’ if possible please?
That information you posted JM about gaps in certificates http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php/topic,546609.0.html is pure GOLD! :D I have many bits of paper with gaps.... now your helpful advice should make finding what I need a lot easier, Well Done JM!!!
The 1903 info on Mary & Robert Hatcher of Bourke will come in very useful as I did not have these names in my research, thanks.
Jamison, the contributions that everyone is making here is just fantastic, as you know I am building the Hatcher family tree and I will attempt to include all names that come up in my research in the records & from postings on this message board. To date for the record there is about 38 different family names on this tree being researched. Nice work finding the 1891 census record for the Ferry family. I have asked my Dad who is near Southampton to try to get us a photograph of both the Ferry houses at the addresses you found. Well Done!!!
I’ve had a search about for records of the sibling’s marriage & death details of Caroline Ferry nee Hatcher without any results yet. I think Caroline’s siblings names were;
1. William Hatcher born abt 1814
2. Harriet born abt 1819
3. Henry born abt 1822
4. Elizabeth born abt 1827
5. George born abt 1827
6. John #2 born abt 1828
7. Charles born abt 1830
8. Thomas born abt 1833
9. Sarah born abt 1837
I’d be very interested in hearing if there is more about the names listed above please.
Well done Jamison on finding the Pickering family, I estimate if the two daughters live at least into their 60's they may have died sometime around the late 1940's. The information you found will be very helpful in tracking later generations down & perhaps we may even be able to communicate with the Pickerings family soon.
If anyone can help us find out who Alice or Hilda Pickering married around the 1900's that would be appreciated.
With everyone’s kind help we may eventually find living Hatcher, Ferry & Pickering relations in England!
Regards,
Stephen

Hi there,
from the volumes re History of Bourke (so the information needs to be checked/verified against official records) These may and/or alternatively MAY NOT be part of your Hatcher family tree so you may need to do lots of research to confirm or eliminate ....
Anyway, here's some of the many other entries re HATCHER ... (I had looked for DAY as a keyword, but the returns include the various days of the week, and not just the surname, so there were over 5330 returns on that particular keyword ::) ).
"....HATCHER, Robert
Had H. L. 1890:55 east of “Garlands”. Fofeited by 1906. There was a J. Hatcher reported at North Bourke in 1895...". (JM notes that H.L. = Homestead Leasee, and "Garlands" would be a P L (Pastoral Lease)
"..... the (JM notes this comes from a long report re the Presbyterian Jubilee celebrations of 1934) Marriage Registers show that the first record we have was in 1887 when Joshua Farrell was married to Louisa Hatcher by the Rev. Jas. Kinghorn in February of that year.
"..... ANDERSON, Peter Edward
Born London 1833,diedc.1925. At Mudgee in 1851 married Mary Ann HUTCHINSON, born c.1831, died c.1909. A son George Herbert married Elizabeth HATCHER in 1888 and their children, all born North Bourke, ere Elizabeth Mary Ann, Phoebe, Emily, John Albert, Isabella May and Myrtle.
" .... HATCHER John. Widow Mary Ann Luckie ("Granny") died 04/ 08/1932 aged 86.
There are some 1,800,000 words on the CD, and the printed volumes are available in many family history groups archives throughout NSW. I also understand the volumes are available at the National Library of Australia and at the NSW State Library.
The following snippet is from the first page of Volume 1 and should help you find the hardcopy volumes
"Papers on the History of
BOURKE AND DISTRICT
Volume No. 1
Produced by the voluntary effort of members of the
BOURKE AND DISTRICT HISTORICAL SOCIETY
Bourke, NSW - October, 1966."

Greetings to all,
I found a shipping record while searching about for other siblings of John Hatcher that may have also come to Australia on the Indexs to Assisted & Unassisted British Immigration 1839-1871 for Victoria. The ship Marshall Bennett arrived in Geelong August 1854.
http://210.8.122.120/indexes/index_search_results.asp
There is a chance this George may be John's younger brother as the age for him on the shipping record matches up to his birth year of 1827.
Can anyone help me out with any more information about the above George Hatcher, when/where he married Emma in the UK, what her maiden name was, where did they go after arriving in Victoria please?
Regards,
Stephen
-
..Please check the date for this marriage there seems to be some confusion as to the parents of The bride and groom ... Perhaps there was more that one couple with those names married in the Albury district in 1875
Here you note the marriage as 18 Jan 1875 (John OWENS = Mary Ellen/Ellen Mary/Mary Ann HART)... but on your John Owens at Lidcombe hospital thread you have the marriage as 22 Nov 1875 It is your post #22 on the Lidcombe thread ... It affects the searching for Patrick Hart Margaret Hart (nee Corcoran) James Owens and Mary Mrs Owens wife of James ... Those threads are currently locked.
Fingers crossed that sorting out which is the correct mc for your couple will help your research.
Cheers JM
I am searching for the parents of John Owens and Ellen Mary (Mary Ellen) Hart who were married 18 Jan. 1875 in Albury Vic
John Owens as it goes was born in Moone Ponds and Ellen (or Mary) as it goes was born in South Yarra

That is correct - l locked them because the focus was too much on Ellen (or Mary) and no-one else in the family and some questions were not answered.
I have confirmed that the marriage date of the Owens/Hart was 22 Nov. 1875 St. Patricks Church Albury and the church has confirmed the mentioned date.
I do not think a month affects the search of anything really in relation to the parents of the married couple !!!
As l have posted mc provided little info on the couple so my informant supplied the rest.
Check book genealogy and patience from others to fill in the gaps helps.
I am off to do some more !!!

Good to now learn that you are no longer interested in a marriage in Albury district on 18 Jan 1875 for a John Owens or a Mary Ellen Hart as it seems to me that would have a different set of parents noted in the Church Records ....

Hi Jamison
This Post gives you information about a mc indexed in the NSWBDM records. This same post gives you information about a bc indexed in the Victorian BDM office.. The British Empire was growing in influence in the 1870s and NSW and VIC were 2 of the colonies, each with their own unique way to organise the administration of the record keeping for BDM events....
Have you eliminated the 1858 cert?
Hi Jamison,
Mary E Hart married John “Orvens” in 1875, Reg#1738 in District of Albury in New South Wales.
Mary Ellen Hart was born in South Yarra, Victoria in 1858, Reg#16324 and her parents were John Hart and Margaret Hollett.
Still looking for John - could you please advise where you got his birth in Moonee Ponds from?
Cheers,
Janet.

Problem sending it :-[
Simply put !!! See the dates etc.. below ;)
All the corrections were made on 6th and 9th January especially with the marriage date changing it from Jan. to Nov. (6th Jan)
Therefore the Hart/Hollett reference did not fit based on the family connection info (as l wrote on the 9th.)
Another source made it very clear that Ellen`s parents were Patrick Hart and Margaret Corcoran.
I have linked up with a ggrandson of Mary Ann (your find my CC recently) and he has confirmed the connection of the sisters.
I have posted a HART summary on the Patrick and Margaret Hart strand - to keep the Harts where they are.
The Owens can stay where they are with Ellen and John strand and John`s own strand or those two can be merged.
Regards and l hope this clears it all up :) ;) :D ;D

One can go crazy with the names sometimes .........
So the Hart/Hollett connection does not fit the bill with the lastest info. l got from Oz
Her parents were John and Ellen Mary Hart - her marriage cert. should confirm this.
The marriage cert. did not confirm this but the church did that parents were Patrick and Margaret as l posted recently.
Will obtain a transcription of her death and her marriage cert. to John Owens !!!!
With the transcription l will hopefully find out his parents names and place of birth !!!
All little pieces are coming together to make a whole picture.
Without everyones help it would not have been possible to find her.
