On Sarah's headstone it says beloved wife of Harry Hale. She is buried in St Deniols with her yonger sister Annie

1. I cannot find a marriage for Sarah and Harry. Sarah died in 1926

Hi there

Wonder if Sarah's maiden name was Dodd but she could have married before to someone else which could explain why we can't find her as a dodd to Hale marriage.

Have found this

Harry Hale aged 22 married Sarah Mouzon 21 at St Faith Stepney

A long shot maybe??

Hi to you all

I have Harry on the censuses for 1911 1901 and 1891 and I also have Sarah E for 1901 and 1891 but not 1911.

I do think that the marriage for Sarah E and Peter Davison is possibly the right one, and that Peter died during WW1.
Ancestry only has the marriage for Sarah and Peter, so I am starting to think that maybe Sarah and Harry did not marry.
But..... The family were strong believers in the church so I can't see Sarah not been married to Harry.
Think I will have to keep looking

Thank you for you help so far

Meriel

She is buried in St Deniols with her yonger sister Annie

Do you know why she was buried with her sister? What happened to Harry?

Tecwyn  ???

Sorry, just read the string again and see that Harry re-married in 1928.

Have you noticed that two Sarah E Dodd's were born in the area in 1887? Sarah E registered Hawarden and Sarah Elizabeth registered Flint.

Clearly one of these married Peter Davison in 1912, and the GRO registers suggest that they had three children: George W 1918, Joyce 1921 and Glenys 1925.  Each of the children is registered Hawarden and mother's maiden name is shown as Dodd. My guess is that the Sarah that married Peter Davison is not your Sarah.

Tecwyn.

Hi Tecwyn

No I didn't notice that.

That might just make sense as I can't see Sarah not being married.

I have checked the  GRO indexes from 1906 upto 1926 but cannot find a marriage.
It all seems a bit strange??

I have found WW1 service records for Harry from 1914, he enlisted in Shotton which is where he was living. He was aged 31 and born in West Bromwich, also have his fathers address from his service record

Thanks

Hello Meriel, Have you seen Sarah Elizabeth Hales burial record Jan 1 1927 age 39?
It gives her address as Brookside Garden City.
It might be worth a look at the Electoral Rolls :-\

Hi Paul

Thank you for the info.  That is the Sarah I am looking for.

Would anyone on here have access to the Electoral rolls for 1927 for Flintshire or would I have to go to the records office

Thanks

Meriel

Hi Meriel,
I had a look through some electoral rolls. All they tell you is Harry and Sarah lived in Brookside from 1918. I couldn't see them in Garden City before then :(

Can you post the census info you have & the names of their children?

Paul.
