I have been tracing my ancestors who are named pearson. I have been able to trace them back to moneydie in perthshire. I am stuck at William who married a Mary Peddie at moneydie.4 dec 1754.
I have been able to find two william pearson`s , one born 22 april 1705 at moneydie & the other born 13 mar 1709 in redgorton, which is just a few miles down the road. i am a bit sceptical that they may be the william i am looking for as they would be around 50 when they had their sons william and john, can anyone help ?
I am also trying to find out what became of Mary Pearson, born 1856, she had two children, Lawerence , who was my G Grandfather & Whilhelmina.
Mary went on to marry Alexander Anderson 3 jun 1891 in moneydie. Can anyone help. Thanks

yes lorna, that is lawrence from 1881, his mother is also listed here as mary, aged 26. Lawrence`s full name was lawerence edwin wilson pearson, unable to find out where his middle names came from.
I have been up to Moneydie and found the orramans cottage and other buildings that they have lived in. I have also found the grave of James and mary, which also included his son & Gr son james.
Next to that grave was Jane`s who married a james scimgeour.
I am also puzzled by two children being listed as Gr son & G son
thanks for the reply,
charlie

It would be nice if you could find any other pearsons who may have lived in the surrounding area, if its not too much bother.
I am also looking up Alexander Young who married Jane montgomerie 3rd mar 1876 in Lochee, Dundee.
His father was Charles(1828-1869) and his wifes name was Elizabeth Smith Cooper (died 1870).
Thanks for your help,

Lorna the info you have given me on william is great, :) William married Christina walker 3rd oct 1873, they had a son james( 6th aug 1875) who is on the Moneydie census you posted earlier, but william`s occupation was listed on james`s birth cert as policeman.
It would appear that James lived with his gr father in moneydie for quite some time as i found him in the 1891 cunsus for moneydie.aged 15.
I did not know that william had two daughters, that is great news and more to add to my f tree, thanks again :D

Lorna the info you gave me on ann is very interesting, I will try to match it up with my f/tree which is really widening up now.
Helen did in fact go on to marry james taylor at Moneydie on 17 aug 1808.
her new family stayed in moneydie for some time as i found them in the 1851 census for mone3ydie, which is a great booklet.
I have found wills for William Pearson who married Janet Burns, also wills for Ann & Elspit who were williams daughters, both could not read or write.
I am also trying to link a Robert Pearson who was a farmer, whom owned a few farms he married a catherine peddie and had a dau catherine, robert died 8/12/1883.
His daughter Catherine married a William Wyllie who was a manufacturer from paisley.
thanks, charlie

Interesting. I'm not looking at Pearson but am looking for Halley, wonder if this is the James Halley I am looking for? ???
-
Sorry Shirley, cant help you as the Halley`s dont fit in with my Pearsons. ???
-
Sorry, I wasn't actually looking for help. I was just browsing when I noticed the details.
Actually the Halley's are not my ansestors but I am working on a book about a church in my town and the Reverend James J Halley was one of the names associated with the Congregational Church. I don't know if this is the person I am looking for but it just piqued my interest.
I guess I was just proving that sometimes the information you are looking for comes from areas that you would never have thought of. It's not always just the person on the census you are looking for, sometimes ansestors can turn up in the most unusual places. maybe not unusual, but not an area where you would have thought.
Good luck with your search.
Shirley

I am now trying to findout what became of Wilhelmina scrimgeour Pearson, born 1 apr 1886 in Moneydie, her mother was mary pearson.

Hi Charlie
Just saw your message today. I have Christina Pearson's death details from another distant relative, Ian Mc Dougall, who is descended from Helen Taylor. Christina died in Murthly Asylum Perthshire at 5.40 am on 2nd February 1912. Her usual residence was recorded as Auchterarder. From the register of corrected entries the cause of death was Gangrenous Lung affecting heart's action. She was recorded as 60 years old by the hospital attendant who registered the death.
Best Wishes
Eddie Morgan

thanks Eddie, thats another gap filled. its amazing how this thing just seems to go on forever

Anyone else got them on their tree
-

I am also interested in any Pearsons that stay or stayed in Redgorton, perthshire and in Dundee, Scotland.
I am also looking for any information on Wilhelmina Scrimgeour Pearson born 1 april 1886 in Moneydie. I believe my mother who died in 1977 was named after her.
-
I am now trying to find Mary Pearson in 1901 census but cannot find her.
Mary was born in Moneydie 1854.
She had two children Lawrence 1881 & Wilhelmina 1886.
In 1888 her father died and she went on to marry Alexander Anderson in 1891 in Moneydie.
They moved to perth and in 1897 Alexander died in 3 South William st. Perth. Mary died in 1907 at Huntingtower Farm but resided in Atholl St, Perth.
Her Daughter was a domestic servant in Perth aged 14 1901 census.
Her son was married in Perth in 1900 and she was a grandmother that year.
I have tried to find her but am drawing a blank.
Any help would be appreciated. :)
-
Hi Watcher
This is the closest I can see on the 1901 Census:
Mary Anderson 43, Laundress, b. Perthshire
Alexander Anderson 8, b. Perthshire
James Anderson 7 b. Perthshire
Jane Anderson 5 b. Perthshire
Address: 21 Union St, Perth
Maybe you can verify through the children's birth certs?
Regards.
Monica :)
-
Hi Monica,
Apart from the age everything else would appear to fit, the new family adds another dimension to my FT.
I will try Scotlands people to find a positive link.
charlie.
-
Hi Monica,
I have just found them on Scotlands people and was amazed at the answers I found.
My Grandfather was born in ST Madoes and I always wondered how his Parents came to be their in 1900.
His mothers sister died soon after giving birth to her 3rd child at a farm their and his parents were both working on the same farm.
I thought this was the link to why they went their when they were not married maybe to give birth out of wedlock. Oh silly me.
I wondered how they met seeing He came from Moneydie and she came from a small farm caller Cronin near Coupar Angus.
The mystery has been solved as Mary, his mother, and Alexander, his now stepfather, had their second child James at Inchyra Cottages in St Madoes.
Thanks to a great clue from yourself I have finally found the answer, the best £6 I have spent in a while.
I really appreciate your help.
Charlie. ;D :) :D

I'm really pleased you found some answers - it's a great feeling when some things start to make sense.

Hi Tricia,
the name Scrimgeour came from james scrimgeour born about 1828. He married Jane Pearson d.o.b. 20/11/1856. They married in Moneydie, Perthshire 19/02/1886. James died 07/04/1900 and Jane died 01/03/1952. Both are buried at Moneydie parish church.
James was a Gamekeeper/Woodsman.
Scrimgeours were also Joiners in Moneydie.
James parents were Donald Scrimgeour and Jane Palmer.
hope this helps

Hi
Every bit helps - I am hoping to get to pre 1800 and a Margaret Scrimgeour. She married Edinburgh 1801.
I am therefore logging Scrimgeour as I find them
Also looking for a William b c 1857 Perthshire. Parents Donald S & Jean Duff.

I am wondering if anyone can help. My daughter has recently started tracing our family tree. She is doing quite well and had the bones of the tree now we just want to put on the meat lol. It would appear that my Great Grandfather (Robert Reid) was married in Moneydie to Isabella Scot McKay on 7th December 1900. Robert is described as a Labourer and Isabella as a Domestic Servant.
I noticed on the Marriage record that they were married at Mooneydie Cottages, Mooneydie. You will notice the diffetent spellings of Moneydie - double o on the register.
Robert was born on 12th September 1878 in Errol
We will send more information as we find it
We would love to get any information anyone might have.

Hi
I'm new on board... I joined because of your post - I am descended from Donald Scrimgeour and Jane Palmer. They also had a daughter named Jane who married John Taylor in Kinnoull in 1845. Donald and Jane are one of my dead-end brick walls and I am wondering if you know anything further about them. Jane and John are my great, great, great grandparents. I am also looking for siblings of James and Jane Scrimgeour, on the 1851 census I seem to have located James and his mother as well as a granddaughter named Jean McGibbon. Jane Scrimgeour was born in 1817 in Forfar, but her brother James was born in Perth, seems they were mobile people.
If you have anything further I'd be delighted!
Ann

A bit of a long shot but Moneydie is more of a hamlet than a village and I wondered if anyone keeping an eye on this slot might have any Wightons on their tree. I have a James Wighton, farm grieve, of Pitlandie farm, Moneydie married to a Mary Smyth from Meckphen. Does that ring any bells with anyone.

James Wighton was actually born in 1808 and although he died in Abernethy he lived most of his life at Pitlandie and he was my great great grandfather with 10 children.

My father was Perth Franklin Pearson, supposedly named by his paternal aunt. I can trace his lineage through 8 generations of Georgian's in the USA stopping with John Pearson, born 1780....We believe our ancestors were Scottish, and Perth seems like an odd name for a child, unless there was a historical connection. Are there records of John Pearson's emigration to the US after 1780 through 1793?
Thanks for helping. Perth F. Pearson, Jr. St. Simons Island, GA, USA
