brooklyn is a suburb of new york city (manhattan) the non appearance on the irish 1911 census does not mean that the family were not in dublin or elsewhere in ireland on census night , if there is family in the country (county area's) they may be listed there as visitors. have you checked the english census records? other search venue's would be ellis island (new york immigration) and family search.org (church of latterday saints). don't give up, keep posting updates. tony

You can look at some US census records and some New York records on FamilySearch:

A god site for Brooklyn, NY is: http://www.bklyn-genealogy-info.com/

Actually, Brooklyn is part of New York City. The five boroughs of New York City include Manhattan and Brooklyn.
A helpful site with a number of indexes for New York City is www.italiangen.org.
