Title: Shepherd - Leyland, Lancashire
Post by: alveleyhistorian on Thursday 18 November 10 23:55 GMT (UK)
Hi there
Just a quick note wondering if someone in the Leyland area may be able to help me ?

Does anyone live quite close to the local churchyard /Cemetery and could check for the monumental Inscriptions for -
Mary Louisa Shepherd born 1886, who died during the summer of 1943
and also her husband Thomas Albert Shepherd, born about 1880, who died in 1952.
Any help would be very much appreciated
 :) :) :) :) :)

Hello

I know your post is a few months old but I only joined yesterday and thought I'd see if you still needed help.

I live in Leyland and would be happy to have a look around for you. Do you know what church she was buried in?

Hello,
Thank you for your very kind offer. Unfortunatley I do not know the name of the church.
Tom Shepherd was a schoolmaster at a Church of England school for sometime ( that may help ?)
It would be fascinating to find out more about this couple, so any help would be very much appreciated. :) :)

Hi

Well it's probably one of the two CofE cemetaries.

I'll aim to wander down at the weekend and will let you know if I find anything.

Hi again

Just a quick update. I had a walk to St.Andrews but, due to the size of the graveyard, I only covered about a third of it.

Instead I contacted the church to see if they had their burial records. They do and I went today to look at them but no one was in! Hopefully I'll get a chance to try again on Friday.

Gary

I live just down the road and would be happy to pay a visit one day this week as I'm on leave from work.. can you tell me where you already looked Gary so I'm not re-tracing your steps?

Well, I looked around 90% of the churchyard without much success today before the rain set in, but the grounds keeper told me to see Irene at the church Hall so that's my plan for tomorrow.

I did find a different Shepherd headstone, but 'll save the details until I know more about the one you want.

Thank you for your kindness, it is much appreciated
This is the information I have so far -
Thomas Albert Shepherd, married Mary Louisa Elcock at Alveley Church  in Shropshire in 1913.
They had 2 sons - Roland (b1914) and Francis (b1916)
They moved to Leyland in the late 1920's ? where Thomas became a local schoolmaster
Their eldest son Roland married Bernice Kelly in 1939.( Roland died in 1986 ?)
Their other son Francis was in the RAF during WW2 and is listed on Leyland war memorial.

Mary Louisa Shepherd died during the summer of 1943, and her husband Thomas in 1952.

Any help would be much appreciated  :) :) :)
