Hello all,
I am trying to find out what cemetery a particular person was buried in but am having no luck and in contacting various offices, seem to be getting the runaround.......
The individual in question is:
Dorothea Sophia (née Short) Brackenbury
b) 2.DEC.1849 Lincolnshire
d) Third Qtr. 1914 Nottingham
She usually wnet by her middle name (the death record and earlier census records list her as "Sophia").
If it helps at all, she lived on 11 Clare St. in Nottingham at the time of her death. She would have been a widow, but her husband (from whom she was estranged) died and is buried in Leicester.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!!
Thanks!!

Hello Kavik,
As far as Nottingham goes, I would try Nottingham General Cemetery. If you think that there was a chance that she was Jewish...a lot of Jews lived around Clare St....you could try the Jewish cemetery

There is a CD of the General Cemetery, Kavik. Maybe someone here has it & could have a look for you

If someone could do a look-up on a CD that would be great - as far as I know she was not Jewish (CoE as far as I know).

Hi,
The Notts Family history CD of the General Cem, is for monumental inscriptions. I have checked for you and there are no entries for Brackenbury's.
But you would need to check at Nottingham Archive as they have the full burial records. She still might be there, but have no head stone, so she won't show up on the CD (as I found for a few of my ancestors!)

Thanks for the look up - yeah, that's true about the marker inscriptions only (i.e. if no marker, no inscription to copy = "no" record). It's the same here.
I'm not sure what cemetery she is buried in either.

There are 2 Brackenburys in Church Cemetery:
John died 2/5/1911 age 67
Jane, his wife, died 8/10/1914 age 58
both in the same grave.
Also, in the NFHS parish burial register:
Jane Brackenbury buried 27/3/1878 age 62
Parish: Nottm St Mary
Abode: Holly Gdns
Don't know whether that's of any help?

Thanks very much!! At least that confirms that she is not buried at Church Cemetery :)

Actually, maybe I misunderstood the info above - are you saying these ar the only three Brackenbury burials in Nottingham or just for that particular cemetery?
Thanks!

1849 and 1914 is a huge difference. Can you narrow it down? I have looked on Ancestry and get too many results to give you. Have you got any census info?

The person I'm looking for is Dorothea Sophia (née Short) Brackenbury - she was born in Billingborough, LINCS on 2.DEC.1849, got married in Marylebone 1872 (her father remarried after her mother's death and lived in Marylebone after the marriage). She married Hubert Brackenbury. Shortly after they were married, they moved to Horbling, LINCS where all their children were born - they owned and operated The Plough Inn in Horbling. They fell on hard times and moved to Nottingham - as the story goes, shortly after they got there, Dorothea (who was actually known by, and appears on most records as, Sophia - used her middle name) left Hubert and ran off with the mayor (or someone who maybe was not the mator right away but was around 1901-1903). Hubert later in life went to live with his children who were in Leicester. He died there in May of 1899 and is buried there. Dorothea was still living in Nottingham. In 1914 she was living on Clare Street. She died the same year (third quarter) and I assume is also buried there (she is not buried with Hubert). By the time of her death, all her children had emmigrated to Canada and one came to the US.
So.....looking for a burial of Sophia Brackenbury died third quarter 1914 in Nottingham. Her death info on FreeBMD gives her name at death as Sophia Brackenbury (i.e. she apparenlty did not remarry).
