Hello
I think my grandfather worked for the trustees of Charles E Pennefather in Beckley c 1906 -1909. I have a photograph which may be relevant.
Grandfather lived at Hayes Cottage, Beckley during these dates and although C E Pennefather died in 1904 I have evidence that trustees held land in the area in 1907. This may well be too obscure for you but thought I would pass it on!
Regards
Helen

Hi there,
Charles Pennefather is my great-great-grandfather. His daughter, Christina, is my great grandmother. I would love to hear any information or see any photos if you have any?! At the moment there is a century old rumour in my family that Charles had a 'secret' family. I am hoping this to be solved!
I would appreciate any advice.
Thanks
-
Hi and welcome to Rootschat, just when/where was Christina born, and were you aware of the children in the 1901 census?

The Last of the Pennefathers
The last of the Pennefathers to reside at Rathsallagh was the wonderfully named British diplomat, Harold Wilfrid Armine Freese-Pennefather who succeeded to the estate on the death without issue male of his great uncle Fred Pennefather in February 1921. In 1925 Harold took on the name Pennefather in order to come in to the property. Harold Freese- Pennefather was born on 2nd March 1907, the only son of Edith Wood and her husband, the Rev. Frederick Freese, Vicar of St. Ethelreda, in Fulham. Edith's mother Susan was Frederick William Pennefather's only sister; hence the line of succession.

Susan Penefather (only sister of Frederick Pennefather) married Mr John Gathorne Wood
Edith Wood their daughter married Rev. Frederick Freese, Vicar (of St. Ethelreda, in Fulham)
Harold Freese was born on 2nd March 1907 (only son) (two older sisters??)
He changed his name by deed poll to Harold Freese- Pennefather in 1922 to inherit property.
Frederick Penefather was his fathers 4th son, he outlived 3 older brothers!
