Hello,
I am looking for a marriage between Thomas Martyn Harrington and Elizabeth Cuckow Wade (b 1788 in Shotley) . I have been unable to find any information about their marriage and no information on Thomas's parents. Their first child Elizabeth Wade Harrington was born in Cavendish in 1810. I can find no mention of them is any census returns, in 1841 their three youngest children are living with their aunt Susannah Wade, sister of Elizabeth in Chelmondiston which makes me think they had died yet can find no record of their deaths.I have ruled out a marriage between a Thomas Harrington and an Elizabeth Stebbens as this marriage takes place in 1817 (and the womans surname is incorrect)
So if you are able to find any record of their marriage or deaths would be greatly appreciated,
Many thanks
Liz

This is all rather spooky. I have a sampler made by Elizabeth Harrington (Thomas's daughter) in 1819 aged 8, it has always thrown me as she made it in Pertenhall, Pertenhall is 5 mins from Little Saughton. I grew up in the village next to Pertenhall, Beds but was convinced it could not be the 'bedfordshire' Pertenhall as all the family are in Suffolk... :o
Thomas and Elizabeths eldest child was born in Suffolk in 1817, maybe he left his children in the care of his dead wifes sister and moved to Bedfordshire.
Thank you for this, It is not something I had considered

Looks to me like they were all in Bedfordshire in 1818 and probably John Alfred was born and Elizabeth died soon after.
It is rather spooky about the sampler but at least you have a bit of the puzzle solved now.
The Children may have gone to live with Elizabeths Sister much later than 1818.
Trish :)
Excellent find Sue re Elizabeths Burial.
At least the Marriage is a definite possibility now.

Hi
Picking up an old thread here, but just to say that Thomas Martyn Harrington junior (b. 1811) married my 2x great aunt Sarah Wright in 1848 at Shotley, Suffolk. My mum was born a Wright.

Thomas Martyn Harrington married Elizabeth Wade in Chelmondiston on 20th September 1808.

Hi - thanks, yes. The marriage was by licence, details of the licence being online on the Suffolk Record Office website: see https://www.suffolkarchives.co.uk/collections/getrecord/GB173_FAA_23_38_99.

...the marriage licence bond, that is. The 1848 licence bond for Martyn junior is also detailed at: https://www.suffolkarchives.co.uk/collections/getrecord/GB173_FAA_23_38_99
