Thanks Rambler,
I had Mary Thornley as his wife, but not the marriage details or where George & Mary were born. One more piece of the puzzle and should help me find a few other details. See you are in Manchester, I actually have a Manchester connection myself my GG Grandfather Samuel Thickins became an orphan in Manchester (Addington Street) with his younger brother Richard. Charged with burgulary in Liverpool and transported to Van Diemen's Land (Tasmania Australia) 1846 where he established the Thickins line in Tasmania and Victoria. Manchester Historical Society tells me they had no knowledge of a Thickins family born in Manchester, yet there was quite an extended family of them (Salford area mainly). I have tracked most of them. They tell me any I find are mine. Manchester Collegiate records have been a great help.
Thanks so much for going to that trouble, Sue

Hi
This is a long shot. I have a relative Martha Dale born 1777 in Astbury and she married James Elsby 17/08/1794 in Sandbach. Could she be related to your Dales? Or have you come across any info about her.
Thankss

Hello Lynn,
I know it's a long time since you posted this message, but this is my first time on this website, so it's new to me! I was intrigued by your reference to James Elsby and Martha Dale, as they are four times great grandparents to me. Not sure that I have any more info than you would have, but feel free to contact me if you wish!

Further to previous post, now know that Judith's real name was Stanier or Stonier and she was the niece of Isaac's first wife Charlotte. Isaac married Judith 12 August 1824 after Charlotte's death. Judith was illegitimate, christening 8 August 1802 Astbury, Mother Alice Stanier/Stonier of Moreton, father unknown. Death 14 May 1864 Congleton. Isaac had a large family with both wives. Son Alfred (my GGF) and his sister Caroline (Jeffers) migrated to Victoria. The rest stayed in Congleton. Alfred's death record in Victoria shows mother Judith Clarke which was not correct as Judith does not appear to have remarried after Isaac's death. The name change may have been a family error, but more likely to cover up Judith's history. Isaac's parents appear to be Thomas Dale and Martha Johnson marriage 8 October 1782 Astbury. Would appreciate any info on Thomas and Martha.
Thanks, Sue

In the Register entry, Thomas is described as 'Silk Throwster'. Neither he nor Martha signed the Register, making their mark instead. The witnesses - who did both sign - were William Slater (who also signed as witness to the following marriage that day) and George Beech.

Hi Sue,
Also a descendant of Isaac and Judith through son Alfred and his daughter Frances Emma. Now our family have Isaac born 1812 to Isaac and Charlotte Whalley. Isaac Jnr married Judith Clarke 1835 in Congleton. Judith parents were Thomas and Mary and she was born in 1818 in Stretford
