Hi janine,
I have wondered about my true father for 70 years (I am now 84) and picking up a free offer from Ancestry.co over the "Poppy"week ending Sunday 14 November 2010, I searched for a Arthur Walter WILLIS as an alternative to that I had searched previously.
All the details of his enlistment tied in exactly with his father and mother, George and Ellen WILLIS, details that I had previously searched and recorded. What a surprise and could not get over this information and it made my day having recently having just come out of hospital after major surgery.
It transpired that my "father", Arthur WILLIS 14895, enlisted in the Wiltshire Regiment 7-9-1914 and then on to the 7th (S) 13th Royal Dublin Fusiliers and then went out to Gallipoli where he was wounded in the thigh and eventully arrved home as records show he married Charlotte Gotobed and he died at Whipps Cross Hospital 1930.
My mother never would tell me any of the details of my father but I am more satisfied to learn more of his background but small points remain outstanding.
So if any one has any detials of the GEORGE WILLIS family who had four sons/family, 13 Warmington St, 1911 census Plaistow who might originate from West Ham, Plaistow. area I would be more than pleased to make contact.
Regards John
