Hello copeland, I am fairly certain that your man is listed in the 1881 free census found in www.familysearch.org .... He is shown as age 23 born in Holburn, Middlesex with his parents, William and Jane Townsend. He is there with 5 other siblings, too! Looks like a very nice find for you! Let us know if you can find him: RG11; 0573/6 page 6.....We are here to help! ;D Pat

sorry bout this cant see it

OK, Bring up www.familysearch.org and go to advance search.....on left side click on census and you can restrict it to "British census".....then enter William Townsend b. 1858 -- you can limit it to exact because I have already found it using that exact age......You can also enter him born in England so there will be less names to pop up......hit search and you should get very few choices....yours will be the William J. Townsend born in Holborn.....click on him and when he comes up on the screen --- look to the upper right and you'll see "household" -- click on that and the entire family will pop up for you....you can print it out for posterity,if you like.......let me know if you can see it now!! Hi Copeland, working on his age in 1901, this would put his birth year at 1846/7, is this correct?

Hi Copeland
I've just found your message while trying to track down James William Townsend, my uncle who died in Queensland in 1950. He was the grandson of the William James Townsend being researched by you. The son of the William James born in c 1862 was James William (b1882, married 1908, died 1933 in a vehicle accident on Shinciffe Bridge in Durham, and we have a copy of the newspaper report) - he was my grandfather. We have a photo of him and a copy of the Death Certificate.
His son James William emigrated to Queensland in 1949, cut his finger in a sawmill and died in 1950 from the treatment he received (sulphurmurazine). We have a copy of the Coroner's Report from the Queensland Records Office in Brisbane. We have photos and his army medals.
His sister was my mother Mary.
Hope this is of interest

Hi copeland,
I believe the James William Townsend who died 1950 Queensland is my Grandfather. He had a wife Emma Wilson and three sons.
Only just started to look at the family history this week. The post from tadge about how he died is the same story my grandmother told me when I was growing up. I would be greatfull If you or Tadge were able to provide me with more information about the Townsend family history.
Cheers

Hi Dart007,
If James William was your Grandfather, then you must be the Son or Daughter of one of his Sons, I have tried to find his Sons over the years! We even went out to chinchilla, and found James Williams unmarked grave, but didn't find out any info on his wife Emma or his Sons.
Would love to have contact with you and give you any info on my Mum's side of the family the Townsends that I can.
Cheers
Tadge

Hi Tadge,
Yes my father is one of three sons . Not sure why James William was buried at Chinchilla, I think it was where he went for medical help. I was led to believe he lived and worked at the Bunya Mountains but have found no evidence of this.
Yes I would like to contact you regarding the Townsend family history.
I see this web site allows for personal mesages once we each have three or more postings. This being post number two.
cheers
