Hi,
Would anyone have any info about my 6th great grandfather, His name was John Lowther(afraid no date of birth) he lived in Greystoke in Cumberland now Cumbria, there he fathered two children Jeremiah b19 Nov 1702 abd his sister Dorothy 21 Sep 1704. both born in Greystoke. It would help me a lot because I live only 12 miles from Greystoke, I am also trying to find the name of his wife.. Any assist you guys can give would be most welcome..

John - just spotted this post!
All I have, I am afraid, is a date in the PR of 1704 which describes John Lowther as 'of Greystoke mill'.
His predecessor there was probably John DOWSON (1655-1682 - I can't find any other millers mentioned in between) and his successor seems to have been Nicholas DARRACK (1717-1720) (according to TNA)
My own family started it's connection with the mill c 1760, ending c 1930 (ROUTLEDGE, ROBINSON, GRAHAM)
I would be interested in anything you have on John LOWTHER's time at the mill.

Hi John
Have you looked in the Parish Registers? Perhaps you could say what sources you have used to try and pin down your man. It would save a lot of duplication of effort :)
